Finally got to see Free Solo today and WOW, WOW, WOW! Such an amazing film and even though you know how it ends we were all on edge (punny) the entire time during the climb.

The cinematography is tops and the angles they used to capture Alex while climbing is perfect in my non-climbing opinion as it captured his moves to show just how hard (as if nobody knew this already) every move is.

Enjoyed Molly's Game tonight.  True story, and I liked how the narration and pacing reminded me of Goodfellas.

I just read the write up on it on IMDB and it sounds like a movie I'd really enjoy.  On Netflix?

Jessica Chastain kills it, and Idris Elba and Kevin Costner put in one hell of a supporting performance.

I caught it on The Movie Network.  Not sure if it's on Netflix or not.

Between Zero Dark Thirty and Molly’s Game, Ms. Chastain has proven to be a fantastic actor.

New Liam Neeson movie...

He's the new better version of Steven Seagal.  Looks like fun.

Steven's older movies are still a guilt pleasure of mine, particularly Under Siege and On Deadly Ground. Although with the former it was all Tommy Lee Jones.

I like Phantom Thread...much, much more than I thought I would! Watched it this morning.

As always, Daniel Day Lewis is fantastic! Shame it's his last film.

Was looking for something to watch last night I found this on Google Movies.

LE RIDE
In 1928 an under-resourced and untested team from New Zealand and Australia competed in what is considered to be the toughest sporting event in the world. Many considered the entry of these courageous underdogs, racing as a team of 4 against teams of 10, a joke. One French journalist called their attempt nothing short of murder. 168 riders started the more than 3,500-mile race, only 41 finished. Surprisingly this remarkable story about the achievements of these brave athletes has never been told on film, until now. Phil Keoghan - television personality, adventurer and cycling enthusiast, retraces the 1928 Tour de France route, bringing history to life. Following the original course and schedule, riding a vintage bike, Phil and his team will average 150 miles a day for 22 stages.

After watching this I don't think I would have wanted to do that on the best e-bike out there. I think it was grueling even without the back to back 200 mile days. The Tour was way more bad ass back then especially since they were on multi-speed bikes where you had to stop, get off, move the chain to change the gear, get back on and continue riding. Also thinking the probably rode as much gravel as paved roads. Talk about a real tough guy competition.

For only $3 it's a bargain. Do think it is funny that it cost more to rent than buy.

I enjoyed Spiderman: Homecoming on the weekend.  Proper character study, and for once it wasn't two hours of fight scenes, which I find tiresome.  Michael Keaton was terrific as the regular-joe bad guy.  He does menacing very well, with just a twitch of his mouth and that hard stare.  Special effects were excellent, and one scene actually gave me a bit of vertigo.  8/10 from me on this one.

Went to the final showing here of Free Solo. Loved it. It's amazing. I was wondering how they were going to turn his solo of El Cap into a feature length film, and they totally nailed it. Some things I found amazing...

They did a fantastic job of showing all the hard work and preparation that Alex puts into his solos. The idea that he walks up to a 5.14 big wall and just solos it is false. It s a helluva process, and that was shown very well.

The film really conveys how hard the routes he climbs are. Freerider is far from a "gimme" route and the time they spend showing how difficult the moves are is amazing.

We got a lot more insight into Alex the person. Wow. His single mindedness is jaw dropping and his commitment is insane.

Having Tommy Caldwell featured with Alex was brilliant. Tommy is a pioneer in pushing the limits of rock climbing to new levels, but he's also a much more well rounded and grounded person than Alex, and his personal observations really add to the movie and our picture of Honnold.

Peter Croft was also a welcome addition. He's a Canadian from BC that has managed to make it to age 60 despite free soling at a high level. He's the old wise Jedi that has a twinkle in his eye as he passes his light-Sabre to his protege.

The bad?  To me, it's only one part. The girlfriend. Firstly, Alex was Alex well before she came along. Her continued surprise at his lack of commitment to her compared to climbing was baffling. Uh, really, this is who this guy is, and it's public.  Any woman entering into a relationship with him needs to know that he's not a normal guy, and the reason Alex has had few relationships is that this is right out there to be seen.  Secondly, she came off as someone that really just wanted to be the girlfriend of someone famous. Famous for what didn't seem to matter. She went to his book signing without having a clue of who he was. Lastly, when the camera framed her, she seemed to be playing the part of the caring partner worried for the life of her love. Ugh.

Saw ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’ last week.  Not as gripping nor as edgy as ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ (very few scenes can beat that revenge on the rapist scene), but still an enjoyable couple hours’ entertainment.

Watched Scent Of A Woman tonight.  I've seen it many times, but it's been a couple of years.  Still amazes me of how incredible Pacino is in this movie.

^Agreed, great movie, great actor.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.
