Took one for the family the other night and sat through "Instant Family".
Ugh.

Blockers (2018)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2531344/

Single mother Lisa Decker drops off her young daughter, Julie, for her first day of kindergarten. She watches on as Julie is joined by two other girls, Kayla and Sam. Kayla's dad Mitchell and Sam's dad Hunter introduce themselves and become close friends after seeing the bond between their children.

Nothing new or original here. Just take your typical American Pie script and replace the guys with girls and add even more cliches and sterotypes. Don't remember laughing during this huge turd.

Avoid.

Life of the Party (2018)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5619332/

When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna turns regret into re-set by going back to college - landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who's not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna -- now Dee Rock -- embraces freedom, fun, and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.

Another turd with only one laugh. Take one Old School story and replace the lead with a woman but make it even less funny which I thought would be hard to do as Old School wasn't funny.

Avoid.

I PVR'd both of these actually... watched "Life of the Party" and it was just okay, I wouldn't watch it again, but I'd watch Old School again  ;D

Haven't watched Blockers yet tho.

So short of things to do on a rainy Sunday, went to see the Spider Man film. Not bad at all, just what I needed. Some colour, some jokes and laughs (otherwise prohibited in daily German life), doesn't make you think too hard;, and the animation was pretty cool.

Went to Mary Poppins Returns last night. The missus loved it. Not my thing, but for the genre, was entertaining.

Watched a few lately

Logan Lucky
'The Hillbilly Heist' complete with a very entertaining Daniel Craig, amongst others. Both me and the wife really liked this one

Crazy Rich Asians
Sort of a Singapore travelog, and brought back some fun memories of when we were there a few years ago. Great for escape on a cold winters night

Elysium
Have's vs Havenots in the future, from the S. African director of 'District 9'. Weirdly topical now in the Trump era. I liked it quite a bit, in a turn brain off watch things blow up kind of way. My wife would have hated it

Loved the premise and Damon was fine in it, but WTF was with Jody Foster?  She's usually awesome, but he weird accent and wooden acting in this one took me by surprise.

Agree. For me Sharlto Copley stole the show as the crazy S. African merc.

Apparently he is a bit of a character:

I had made his (Matt Damons) trailer look like Kruger and his henchmen had been living in the trailer for a week,” Copley told Entertainment Weekly.

“There were bloodied limbs in the shower and the sink. There was blood on the sheets. I had left all my dirty clothes from the movie — my underwear, smelly socks — in his bed. There was porn in the DVD player. You know, just trash, everywhere.”

Mrs. Random and I saw "Green Book" last night.  VERY good and a refreshing change from all the effects laden superhero/sci-fi/horror flicks out there.

Sounds interesting!  My wife and I might go see it this weekend.  Really tired of the superhero stuff.

There was a feature piece on CBS Sunday Morning this past weekend about this book.  They interviewed folks who are now well into their senior years, who swore by that Green Book for any travels.  This included Mary Wilson, the singer.  What's interesting is that the author (whose name I've forgotten) did write, at some point, about his hope for the day when the book would no longer be required.

Looking forward to the movie, but I will wait for an at-home viewing.

Watched a few Bollywood movies.

Khoobsurat (2014)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3554418/

A hopelessly romantic physiotherapist meets a handsome young Rajput prince who is the complete opposite of her and engaged to someone else.

Feels just like a Disney movie maybe because it was produced by Disney. Quite boring. Don't bother.

Chennai Express (2013)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2112124/

A man heading towards Rameshwaram via Chennai express to immerse his late grandfather's ashes unwillingly gets caught amidst goons after helping their boss's daughter and them board the train.

Getting better but still not great. Had some funny parts but way too long. Kind of meh. Not great but not horrible either.

Mubarakan (2017)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6272828/

Karan and Charan are identical twin brothers but their personalities are polar opposites. Karan has grown up in London while Charan was raised in Punjab. Karan is street-smart, calculating and flamboyant while Charan is simple, idealistic and honest in his approach. Karan is in love with Sweety while Charan is in a relationship with Nafisa. Karan's family fixes Karan's wedding with Binkle, daughter of one of the wealthiest families in London. He convinces his family to fix the match with Charan instead. The respective families are happy with this development except Charan because he wants to marry Nafisa.

Best of the three. Quite predictable but held my interest the longest. More good music and dancing.

I'm open to most movies. Easy to get tired of the Hollywood stuff.  Bollywood is fun for a change but it seems many (or at least the ones I've watched) follow a rigid formula so not much variety in the stories. Do love the music, dancing, and colours though.

^^ Agree - Mrs. Railton and I saw the Green Book this afternoon. So much better watching films on the big screen than the small cheap seats at home. Even 65" does not cut it.

They are also usually LONG....

Am a big fan of Chinese/Japanese/Korean crime movies. Also love their period saga-type movies...

Have watched a number of good Brazilian movies too.
