POLL: Which traffic offenses do you most often commit?
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:09:23 pm »
When it comes to driving, no one is perfect.

As much as we wish it weren't true, we all make mistakes sometimes and we've probably all developed a few bad habits over the years.

I'm not aware of any publicly available statistics on the subject, and figured it might make for an interesting -- anonymous -- poll to see what kind of driving violations we most often commit, intentionally or not.  I'm more interested in people's driving habits than in which specific HTA offenses they're "guilty of."

The behaviours listed in my poll are the ones that seem to occur most often, based on what I regularly see out there on the roads.   Which of them do you commit from time to time?  Check all that apply.

I think you should separate #4 into two answers. I don't think I've ever run a red but I'm often guilty of a "rolling stop" at a stop sign.

For Racing/Stunt driving do you mean really racing or stunting or what the OPP call racing and stunting?   Can be two different things.

My most common traffic offense is speeding.  Typical speeds below (slower when road conditions are less than ideal).

Speed limit:
40 km/hr   50 km/hr  60 km/hr  80 km/hr   100 km/hr

Typical speed: 40  60  70  95  120

That DUI thing is a little vague, like one beer with dinner, or like 4 whiskies, a smoke then drive.

I really don't think #1 should be in there, but its just my opinion.

First of all, 100% of us will answer yes to it. Second, I consider it a bad habit on highways and secondary roads if I'm not driving within the "80th percentile" of all drivers (which has proven to be the safe speed range), which in almost all cases means traveling in excess of the posted limit, like everyone else. With speed limits sometimes lower than back when cars had drum brakes, bias ply tires and no ALB (before the "magic" overnight speed limit reductions when conversion to metric occurred, and other later arbitrary speed zone reductions), I only contain speed enough to avoid the money grabs that are going on.

Speeding is my only real offense.  I'm usually right around 20 over, unless I'm in a residential or built up area.  Good to see zero for the driving while impaired choice.

I think you should separate #4 into two answers. I don't think I've ever run a red but I'm often guilty of a "rolling stop" at a stop sign.

Yes, I suppose, but in the end it's the same offense.  Failing to stop.

For Racing/Stunt driving do you mean really racing or stunting or what the OPP call racing and stunting?   Can be two different things.

Take it the way you see fit.  The poll is just for fun.  It's not that scientific after all.

That DUI thing is a little vague, like one beer with dinner, or like 4 whiskies, a smoke then drive.

It is.  But I'm not sure it would be much better if I wrote "BAC of 0.05 or more" as how do you know what BAC level you're at unless you have a breathalyzer.

I'm just asking, do you sometimes drive when you feel a bit impaired.  Like maybe you just might be over the limit.

I think most people talk while driving , if you have a passenger  :D

Fixed it.  I figured someone might make such a comment.

i follow all the rules... checking blind spots, parking in the right places, always using a signal (even in parking lots), stay in the correct lanes, use bluetooth, use seatbelts etc....

but i always drive over the limit. always. i have gotten older so i know keep it around 20 over. used to be hard to keep it 40 over, but i can't keep getting tickets.

another to add would be "driving in the incorrect(passing) lane"
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

...only speeding.    i might have done some of them, but certainly not all and even then, with the exception of speeding, not habitual at all.

even the speeding thing, i usually stick to limit +10 km/h .

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

I've mastered the practice of getting speeding tickets at exactly 20kph over the limit which costs about $300 in Manitoba. We have a driver merit system in this province and I have zero merits after 32 years of driving...which means means I get no insurance discount.
