if you were rolling in it
« on: February 01, 2013, 11:00:52 pm »
and truly ballin', what "non obvious" cars would you buy?

Say you've got $100mil banked and life is grand. Sure you can go out and buy a 911 (991) Turbo S, an Aventador, and a 458, and maybe a Veyron to change it up a bit, but those cars are all so predictable.

Since this is a car forum I presume people here have tastes slightly more discerning, tastes that run beyond the obvious choices a 12 year old would make. So what "different" cars would you fill your garage with? "Different" isn't really properly defined here, but I would suggest that at very least it means cars that aren't being sold new today in a dealership you'd find in any major metro area (quasi tuner stuff is ok, Brabus/Shelby/etc.)

Basically what USED cars would you really really want to buy? (limit 5)

For myself, for some reason they're all FGCs:

190E Evo 2

850i (pop up headlights!)

911 (993) GT2

CLK63 Black Series (I'd actually want the Safety Car version....but alas I don't think there's a lot of supply)

Phaeton W12 (because its the worlds most aspirational people's car) [yes I realize this is being sold new today in certain countries, but I still think it qualifies as "different")
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

Present: 15.5 V60 T6 + Polestar, 17 MDX
Sometimes Borrow: 11 GLK350
Dark and Twisted Past: 13 TL AWD, 07 Z4 3.0si, 07 CLK550, 06 TSX, 07 Civic, 01 Grandma!

Singer Porsche immediately came to mind.

I guess I'm feeling nostalgic: these aren't really "dream" cars in any way, but if I had money to burn they'd be a fun trip back in time to my high-school years.

Ford Sierra RS Cosworth. I remember reading a review of these in one of the British mags and thinking it was the coolest car ever.

Camaro IROC-Z with the 305 and 5-speed - but only if I can find one in showroom-new condition. I'd pay up to $100,000 for a blue one like the photo.

3.0 CSi. I think I'd want an original one, but a resto-mod with a new 3-series drive train might be okay too. Hell, I'll get one of each.

Volvo 240 Wagon. I'd leave it bone stock for a while, then maybe do a Chevy V8 swap. Then maybe a Lingenfelter kit.

Jaguar XJ-12. Just a beautiful, classic sedan. I'd leave it bone stock, but buy two or three so that one would always be running while the others were in the shop.

Difficult   probably these.
All to be in factory new condition or in some cases restored to better than factory... but not blinged up.

Porsche 928S
Jaguar Mk II 3.8
Morgan +4
Citroen SM
Renault 5 turbo The original one with the engine crammed into the back seat.
Dino 246s

Yeah, you don't need a big engine in a Morgan and the +4 with a two liter or so engine is about right. Engine parts would be fairly standard Ford I think. You would have to repariate to old blighty though..still indexing would commence.

If I had the $100 MM in the bank that mmret suggests then:
a) I could just bribe civil servants to get my car(s) into Canada
b) I would only live here just enough  to keep the government happy
so
c) my stable of weird cars would be garaged in SW France and maybe one of them at  my Paris apartment. And of course being in the EU not only would I get indexing but winter fuel allowance as well.

I'm afraid $100M would be too soon spent.

Why is everyone posting ostentatious flashy cars that are obviously expensive?  I thought the point was understated and tasteful..?

Me..?

;)   A Bristol, TTB?   You don't LOOK like LJKS: did you inherit his DNA?

If understated & tasteful is the criterion than you, me and Helidriver  definitely win   :rofl2: :rofl2:
