Very cool!

Just curious how one makes the decision between KTM, Husky and Gas Gas these days? PDS would be the big one for me. Don’t know if that’s still just on the XC-W or if the other brands offer it too.

Well for the TE/WCW

- PDS KTM only. New linkage has less exposure than before. Agnostic on this. Linkage does seem to work better but more maintenance. Husky seat height smidge lower.

-KTM is $500 more than the Husky. Gas Gas does not arrive until December/January but likely $500 less than Husky

-Husky gets a map switch. TE is so mellow not sure this is worth anything.

-Husky has Braketec components (vs Brembo components on KTM). A couple people I trust tell me the new Braketec stuff is good so we will see.

Yeah, I put a map switch on mine but I don’t think I’ve ever used it on purpose. Mostly I’ll just be wondering my bike is suddenly running like crap, then I’ll eventually look down and see I’ve bumped the map switch to mellow by mistake.

I like PDS because it’s light and simple and no linkage to get hung up on stuff. Any performance difference is a moot point for the riding I’m doing.

In the end, I’d probably go Gas Gas just to save a few bucks. Or, most likely, keep my 2011 to save lots of bucks.  ;D

The new bikes are sweet, though.

Congrats KTM, sweet bike.  Buddy in Calgary just picked up a '24 300XC.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

The XC is bananas. Too much power (57HP vs the W at 49) for the single track at my skill level. The W hits a little lower and has a heavier flywheel. The XC is for the desert or racing. Not enough stator output to power lights and/or fan.

57 HP is more HP than what many years of the CR500 pumped out. Unless your friend is god then it's a lot. If he is a backward hat smack talking campfire guy then yeah he needs more. ::) ;D

So he’s either god or an idiot. Gotcha. Just because it’s not the bike you chose doesn’t mean it’s not a good bike for someone else. Relax.

He is a big dude, but not big should be riding a quad type. He’s fit.

Enjoy your new wheels.

Completely relaxed. When I talk to people who race hare scrambles (similar to a GNCC?) competitively in expert class who say the new XC hits hard and is "a bit much for trail work " I tend to listen. I have met a handful of people ever who could wring out a 500 2 stroke and these new bikes put out similar power which is amazing.  The XC's biggest drawback is the small output stator. Power is needed for lights which are legally required for trail riding here. Add in a fan to handle the heat of slower trail work and the stator can't handle the draw. My friends 2023 XC with fan drains the battery in short order and with no kick starter it is a problem. He ordered a larger stator which will help. He is a top level rider in the Kelowna area so an XC is a good match.

I would say for 99% of the general riding crowd the mellower hit, greater low end torque and larger flywheel of the XC-W is a better fit than the mid/high hit of the XC. They now have the same gearbox .

On a different note the best hard enduro riders in the world are here this weekend at Red Bull Outliers.  Cheering for Billy Bolt on his TE and local kid Trystan Hart on his XC-W

I think so. Bloody expensive so you have to pick the right one. I had an hour or so seat time on a 2023 XC and it was a monster. It wore me out fast. Maybe, just maybe in my 20s it would have been ok.

FRESH 1989 Kawasaki KDX200. it’s been fully gone over and taken right down to the frame and cleaned and put back together. Engine wise it has full rebuild on it that was done by motorcycle shop and zero hrs on the engine. It’s been kicked over once. Brand new parts all around and comes with a bunch of extras, also extra set of original plastics 8/10. Gas cap has been replaced since picture. This is a collectors piece and is the best of both worlds track, trails and the road. It can also be registered for the roads if desired. $3350obo.

That is real nice. I looked at a couple the past few years but while neat the ergos were just not for me. This thing would be the ticket if you were smaller statured and wanted to race vintage off road events. It's also road registered so technically it could be dual sported. Great cottage bike. If he had a shop do it (engine) then he is likely selling this at a loss. Looks like a labour of love covid project. You should buy it.

No budget this year.  Just had the front of the house repointed and repaired (limestone), plus getting some new window$  :P

I'm probably too tall for it anyhow, but the ring-a-ding would be nice to hear.   I wonder if I could convince the wife this is a lighter substitute for her DR200SE, with the same size engine? ;)

It would look great strapped to the back of your motorhome

I LOVED my KDX and did many a race with it.

Even tackled (and completed! ) the 6 Days of Michigan solo with it when I was young and really stupid!
