You do need to try one, the Lotus of dual sports. The motor revs up slow, it is a pussycat.  ;)  Hell you can come ride mine, a total hoot in the city but painful on the tarmac if longer than 30 minutes.  A hard hitting 450 spools quicker. I spent the whole day on the 501 and at the end of the day threw a leg over a 2009 KTM 300 XC with a special pipe on it. Had tons more hit than the 500.

What size bike are we shopping for?

I'm not sure.  Probably a road bike but maybe an adventure bike i could go on simple trail.  I know if  buy something like a KTM500 i'll want full trail tires so wont be able to ride on the roads.

So you are ok with no fairing? That MT-01 is pretty far from an adventure bike lol. Sounds like you need a stable of bikes. In truth it is the only way..

For example I am am thinking:

KTM 300 XC-W
Husqvarna FE501
KTM990 or 1290 (Tenere 700)
Honda Goldwing

Yes. I had 2 of those but now down to just the 501. Covid prices were too good to pass up so the 300 hit the road. Waiting to see what the timelineof the ACL reconstruction looks like before committing to more bikes. I think the next one has to be the Tenere 700.

My CBR 250R has seen over 100km of dirt roads this year. Sand roads are the worst, followed by roads with 3” of gravel.

Full power up kit for the 500 makes it hit hard(er) IMO. +10rwhp

He is just a little promotional with "cooked" dynos etc.  No I don't have a kit. Reflashed stock ecu with Australian tune (closed course competition) and end cap mod on the pipe. Very cheap compared to pricey kit lol. KTM had to tune the bikes very very lean to pass emissions. Removing all the smog kit, reflashing the ECU and freeing up the breathing makes it run like it should. EPA cracked down though so things get complicated.

On my G450X you have to connect a wire to run street legal emission tune, mine fell off.

Decisions Decisions…

Easy decision IMO...

Duke 790.   ;)

I really like the look of the R7, but I find that engine weak sauce in this application.  And I was positively horrified they called the new bike R7.  Talk about tarnishing a legacy...sheesh!

But for the right person....I think that bike would be a hoot and the price is right IMO.  I'm still excited to throw a leg over one though.

If I ONLY had a choice between the R7 and the Priller....I go Yamaha.

Head says R7, heart says Aprilia.

The original R7 was a nice looking bike, but it never won anything, so it's all emotion, it doesn't really have a legacy. As road bikes they are just collectors items now. There's one for sale in Yorkshire if you want one.  ;D
