I rode a 250 for my class 6 exam. Reason why below.
In BC, for people who already have a Class 5:1. Get Class 6 learners license and have the following restrictions:
- Must ride with supervisor
- Maximum speed 60 km/h
- Sunrise to sunset only
- No passengers
2. Pass the motorcycle skills test after 14 days (no waiting period when taking a certified course) and have the following restrictions:
- Sunrise to sunset only
- No passengers
3. Pass Class 6 exam after 30 days to get full Class 6 license. There may be restrictions based on the motorcycle used for the class 6 exam:
- If you did the exam with an automatic transmission, you are restricted to riding automatics.
- If you did the exam on a three wheeler, you are restricted to riding trikes and sidecar equipped motorcycles.
- If you did the exam on something smaller than a 200cc engine, you are not allowed passengers.
For riders who have a Class 7L or 7N graduated drivers license or no license:1. Get a Class 8L learners license and have the following restrictions:
- Must ride with supervisor
- Maximum speed 60 km/h
- Sunrise to sunset only
- No passengers
2. Pass the motorcycle skills test after 14 days (no waiting period of taking a certified course) and have the following restrictions:
- Sunrise to sunset only
- No passengers
- For a 16 year old, this is a way for them to get around unsupervised (on two/three wheels only) since there's no way to remove the supervisor restriction with the Class 7L
3. Pass Class 8N exam after 6 months to get Class 8N license.
4. Pass either the Class 5 or 6 exam after 24 months to graduate into a full Class 5 and 6 license holder. Same restrictions may apply above.
