wow...the new Triumph Trident looks awesome (i'm guessing will be about $10k in Canada, assuming we get it).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0atevedPOY

EDIT:  it's on the Triumph Canada website...$8995.  :o

https://www.triumph-motorcycles.ca/motorcycles/roadsters/trident

Did you mean to post this? https://youtu.be/5aWAQMuOshY

It will be a great bike, but is pricey for the size IMHO.

Is it though?  A CB650R is almost $10g new.  Over without the oooooo...$750 (help me now!) credit.

i think it is pretty aggressively priced.

Yamaha: MT-07 - $8499 (Parallel Twin)
Kawasak: Ninja 650 - $8899 (Parallel Twin)
Honda: CB650R - $9699 (Inline Four)
Triumph Trident 660 - $8995 (Inline 3)

i think it's right in the mix of them, and looks to have a real premium build to it (nothing against the other bikes, but it doesn't look like they've built this to a price if you know what i mean).
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

I'm comparing to when I bought my FZ-09 in 2014. Yes it was 6 years ago, but got it for $8.5K. Everything's gone up a bit in the last few years.

i'm pretty sure MSRP on the FZ-09 back in the day was something like $9995, no?...not that i doubt you got it for $8500, i'm just wondering if you got a deal (vs MSRP)...the MT-09 (same bike, new "name") is $10,799 now.

I think the launch price was $8,999 in Canada, so yes I got a deal.

yes, you are correct...$8999:

still, i think the Trident is priced appropriately for the class (as shown above).

+3% per year for the FZ. Higher than inflation?

Plus the FZ comes with an absolutely stonkin' engine...I personally didn't personally like the FZ as a package, but the engine was fantastic!

I'm always willing to pay more for a bike with something special. Whether it's handling, engine, etc

I consider Bob's RC-51 a special bike for example.

Ok haven't been keeping up to dates on bike at all in the last decade. What bikes are out there in small adventure type(new or 10years old).   Lets say anything between a DRZ400 to a teneree 700...? Asking for a guy. [emoji14]
Lots.

Need to decide how much dirt vs road and budget

Then we can dig into it.

i'm not a financial guru, but i don't think it's that simple...in that, with something that is imported, there are more variables at play (ForEx, tariffs/duties, quantity of units purchased for Canada, etc)...even at $10,799, it's still likely priced appropriately in the class compared to its competition.

I wasn't saying what the cause was, I was trying to figure out why it seemed expensive to me, who bought an FZ-09 for $8.5K six years ago. 3% a year isn't crazy I suppose.

it is a bit high, as it seems the inflation rate over those 6 years is 1.42%...but it likely has to do with the additional reasons i gave above...the fact it's still priced well in its category leads me to think nothing nefarious is going on (price gouging).

. Yeah him not sure. Budget.... 3000 to 8000,   descent tank size, not too heavy,.

Something can jump in the ditch from the road,  so road legal DOT but fairly aggressive in the dirt.  Just wondering all the cool bike I dont known about.

A Triumph Tiger 660 (if and when they make it) would be amazeballs!

Like my Beamer but I need something that can pop the front wheel off the ground
why?

there's a lot of things i can see someone wanting in a motorcycle (and they've been mentioned here), but lifting the front wheel isn't one of them.

meh...nothing looks funnier than seeing some idiot showing off and wrecking his bike, so if that's your thing, have at it.

i guess these people with bikes that lift the front wheel had lots of fun:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB_8292Z5JE
I wouldn't ride like those guy and not in the city.  Back roads with a friend or 2. That's it.   Riding in Groups like that is a turn off.
most of those videos are on "back roads"...it just means you're farther from your house to get a lift home and get your bike towed back on a flatbed.

Would this be considered dangerous?...lol

https://youtu.be/rt2hKzbRCnU

Mt 09 are nice

No gloves or jacket. Wearing shorts and espadrilles.

What could go wrong?

Im surprised they live long enough to make more than 1 video
yea...wearing shorts and t-shirts, no gloves, going 200 km/hr...i mean, if you want to die, that's a good way to do it.

when i took the motorcycle course back in the day, one thing the instructor said still sticks with me...it's regarding the "Dress for the slide, not the ride"...he said if you go down, and slide along the road a good 50 feet, the road rash hurts to get...but it doesn't hold a candle to the pain you feel when they're using a BBQ brush to get the gravel out of your skin at the hospital after....now, maybe they don't REALLY use a BBQ brush, but the image is there and i'm sure it hurts like hell (you HAVE to clean it out somehow).

They bleed too

When I had my highway accident the ambulance people were surprised I was in (relatively) decent shape. The last guy they had responded to had slid down the highway on his jeans, apparently jeans last about 6 feet before they explode and then it's skin on asphalt. The road had ground into his legs a fair way and it sounded like the bleeding was pretty impressive.

My full face helmet did it's job and the Aerostich suit kept my skin together, I just could have used an airbag vest for the impact. Saw this article the other day on the new wireless airbag systems:

When I had some rash scrubbed, it was some medical Betadine pad...like a kitchen sink scotchbright pad.

Wasn't pleasant.

I still like the Hit-Air tether system better. And it's reusable. And it has neck support..which is important IMO.
