HD will likely find it tough to compete in terms of $$, as you said, it is a few grand more...however, there is always that brand appeal, and the engine in this bike is actually fairly decent (in terms of power, feel, etc)...not class leading likely, but certainly more than competitive (it a comparo i watched last year, it was voted as the best engine in the group of similar type bikes)...it was also a fairly decent handler...it's main criticisms line up with what Lemmy mentioned in his review, the fit and finish was not very good, which is certainly important not only with riders, but in this segment where the other bikes were more polished looking (wires tucked away, parts fitting together tightly, etc).
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Took a look at one of these:

2005 Royal Star Tour Deluxe. Because 1300cc V4 is nifty.

Not many kms on it and didn't seem to be asking an outrageous amount given the excellent condition.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Nice bike. I wonder if my eyes are deceiving me but it looks like there are two smaller diameter brake discs up front and a single larger diameter disc brake in the back. Maybe the larger front wheel is creating that illusion?

I'm not sure. I never really noticed.  ???

I'm not sure if I really want a big fat cruiser, but there are a lot of them around with low kms in great shape as the boomers lose interest. It's also $1000/year cheaper to insure than the Hayabusa.

I also find that big cruisers and adventure bikes depreciate like crazy and I mostly attribute it to old people who don't care about receiving top dollar for them and just want to move on to their new bike.

Larger front wheel maybe?  Dual disc up front and single in the rear makes sense though.

I looked it up, fronts are 298mm, and the rear is 320mm. Sharp eye.  ;D

You're right. I haven't noticed any, but I'll keep it in mind,

 :bounce:

I thought that's what I saw, but maybe the smaller rear wheel was deceiving me. Dual 298s should still provide more stopping power than a single 320 but I typically see more and/or larger if not same size disc brakes up front. More but smaller is new to me.

if you like a decent sized touring bike, and were looking at new, the new V-Star 1300 Deluxe SE is actually a pretty decent bike and is also very well equipped...it's $15k, which isn't cheap, but it is a really nice bike (looks similar to a Street Glide, which is a pretty popular style of bike now).

i know, and when you consider a Street Glide starts at $25,299, it's a relative bargain...sure, the HD has a larger engine (likely a little more beefy torque too with it's 111 lb ft vs the Yamaha's 82 lb ft), but geez, that's a $10k difference in price...the Yamaha still has belt drive, a decent 1300cc Vtwin engine, built in NAV (in the dash) and the integrated bags...if i were in the market for a bagger, i'd be hard pressed to convince myself of the extra $10k in the HD, as much as like their bikes.

The V-Max is ugly, but actually an awesome bike.  I rode one of the original ones I expected to hate it - way better bike than it looked.  Not a sport bike, but the engine was freaking wonderful.  And the riding position was good enough to ride around all day crushing the life out of guys that thought they owned a fast bike.
