Most likely to crash on the way from the dealership unfortunately. Be careful on the first few rides.

My wife is less excited about bikes since I blew up my collar bone. But their might be another bike in my future. Probably something a little heavier than the 250.

The first ride on my bike I wiped out coming off my driveway onto the street....that was embarrassing to the 100000000000000000 power. Nothing but a chip off the engine guard and huge sucking chest wound sized hole in my ego lol
Lighten up Francis.....

Soooo frame sliders are recommended?  :rofl2:
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Harley only dreams of one day making a cruiser this facking cool.

100% agree.

Now come on Roger, buy the damn Trident will ya!

Yeah, it's only a matter of when, now, correct?  Not "if"?   Right?

I wish.  Spousal disapproval remains strong.  Some small signs of improvement - she volunteered that she thought the Street Scrambler was a "cool looking bike".  ;D  I'll take my small victories.

I'll take the course, get my license and see what happens thereafter.

Maybe you'll get to test ride one first and I can point to your review as a selling point - just keep referencing that it is a bike an older dude is unlikely to kill himself on - that'll help!  :rofl2:

I take it she has no interest in taking the course, too?  Even if she doesn't do the full deal to get her complete license, but does the intro course, so she starts to understand bikes and enjoyment of riding one -- she might never wish to own her own, but at least she'll understand why you love it so much.

The wife had less than 0 interest in taking the course with me, she doesn't like bikes, doesn't want to get on them.....basically this is "my thing". She said if she was younger she might have done a dirt bike, but I have no interest in pulling off backflips and heel clickers lol

I bet 6 year olds do it now!!    :rofl2:

But back in the day...that was THE trick.    :rofl2:

I would also do a variation of that on street bikes when doing a wheely...

And that folks is the extent of my trick repertoire on 2 wheels!!    :rofl2:

my boss has an older Shadow 1100 (can't remember the exact year, 2000?)...anyway, he's kind of been looking for something different (still wants to keep the shadow for cruising), but something with a bit more zip...looks like he just made a deal with someone to get their 2001 Suzuki Katana 750...i saw a photo of it...looks like it's in pretty decent shape with some recent maintenance items taken care of...was originally listed for $3500, then dropped to $2500...he said he made her an offer last night and was curious if she accepted it...she did and is dropping the bike off tonight...not sure of the price, but my guess is $2k?

here's the bike:

A friend of mine has one of these and just freaking loves it. Had a GSXR600 but the Katana is way more usable in every situation minus a track day.

did not know these were air/oil cooled...that's a pretty nice maintenance free feature.

Less than zero interest.  She's just one of those people - and they are many - who believe that motorcycles are rolling death machines.  Doesnt help that she has family experience with a bad bike crash.  And yes, I've explained that we both know people who've been in car crashes and we still drive.   It's more of a visceral / emotional thing, as opposed to not accepting that it is something I would really enjoy.  And frankly, it's partly an accumulation of Covid-stress.  Nobody is looking to add one more damn thing to worry about right now.  But - small progress has been made.  I recently traded watching all two hours of the Oprah interview with her, for her watching 3 motorcycle videos of my choice with me.  I shall choose carefully.  :)

Yeah, don't show her that. Argh

Depends a lot on where you ride. I had no problem riding to work every day in towns like Lethbridge or Medicine Hat. Sure I wore a bright vest for visibility, made my rear light flashing on braking, got the airbag vest after I had my accident. But really, no major concerns

Edmonton though does not seem worth it. Lots of traffic, fast speeds, a bit of rando in the drivers. Bike accidents are regular in the summer months

So that dangerous side really varies IMO

you definitely need to be aware/careful on a bike, but most of those accidents were relatively avoidable...a few of them were people going a bit too fast and not paying attention...the one guy getting blinded by the sun sucks, but put your hand up (to shield the glare) or pull over and put some sun glasses on...don't keep going if you can't see (driving blind is never a good idea)...the 2nd last one, the guy is riding on the right side of the lane for some reason (not sure why) and i assume he got target fixation or just wasn't paying attention because he ran right into the back of that car despite having plenty of time to slow down/stop or at least go to the side and not hit him...the last one was an accident waiting to happen...never ride like that, it's just asking for a crash.
