My dad grew up in India in the 1960s-1970s and lusts after the Royal Enfields. I've been sort of toying with the idea of picking one up.

It's been a year or two since I was on a bike; I think the last one I reviewed was the BMW RnineT Scrambler.

RE build quality still isn't great, you will be modifying it just to work properly rather than for pleasure. Not sure about the most recent models, but there is a market of 'known mods' for sorting out design issues like broken clutch cables et al.

There are people out there who would rather tinker with their toys than play with it I guess. I'd personally take reliable any day.

I don't know whats to special about that, beside the low KMs, but you can get a brand new, shiny liter bike for the same or cheaper. Collector piece??

Yeah, it's becoming a future classic. But it's still a few $K overpriced.

I drove a 'Minsk' for a day once in Vietnam. Didn't realize till then how much I took for granted with modern motorcycles until I rode one based on 'classic' engineering from the 1930's mixed with Russian metallurgy and attention to detail

Definitely a collector piece with those zero kms, it's a brand new 20yr old bike... and that V-twin engine is a beast!! I test drove the VTR version which had a detuned version of the same engine and I just loved how it drove. I almost bought a 2003 VTR 1000 last summer... but figured I'd barely use it and ended up with the SLK a few weeks later

yea...but, it's rare and this bike is still brand new, so likely a gem for the right buyer.

Inquired about buying it...but they wanted crazy, crazy money.

You should see some of the classics in that place.  I should've taken some pictures yesterday.  Maybe they're all posted on Kijiji, but if I recall, they're not really for sale.

They did have a couple of bikes I was thinking might be kinda fun...or maybe not.  Just for farting around maybe, but not sure a 40 hp 500 or a 49 hp 750 would be adequate for my dad bod.

Probably shouldn't watch Fort 9's review of the Rebel 500...it's probably a nicer bike than he makes it seem...or maybe not.  But they've got several in there, and not a lot off on the brand new 2018/19's either.  $850?  C'mon...should be $2g or more if it's already 2 yrs old, no?
Like why is this 2018
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1541663516

More than this 2019?
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1536378557

Because colour?  As much as I think that would be too small...they are only $555 to insure annually...could buy 2, learn the wife how to ride, and combined the insurance is less than the kids new 650.  Then again combined they also have less horsepower than his 650... :P  And they're not exactly long distance machines...would need a new toy hauler camper so we could take them to the mtns for some fun.

This one also seems like it might be alright.  A mini Africa Twin...pathetic power numbers but it does something like 82 US mpgs...that's darn near if not 100 Imp mpg...which is how manly l/100 km?  Almost nothing!  2.8ish...could probably ride longer than your arse would let you.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1536378575
And it's a pretty good looking bike too...and just under $900 annual to insure (which is good in MB...considering if it has sporty fairings (or is a "naked" bike) - it's a shitton more. And it's a Honda...what could go wrong?

That NC750 looks like a very boring bike to ride. YMMV

You ever been to MB?

With 49 whole HP it surely wouldn't be that exciting - true.

They had a couple of Africa Twins there...those things look HUGE...one was $17ish and the other was well past into the mid-high 20's.  An imposing machine for sure.

looks like Honda has added some upgraded bits to their 2021 CB650R (and different colours)...this is a very competitive segment.

these sound pretty nice with the Akropovic exhaust system:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL3vP_cKMHA

^^^ Lol, tell me grey isn't a new "colour".  :rofl2:  I guess Honda is as adventurous in colour schemes with their bikes as with their cars.  ;D

It's a really nice bike though.  I am quite smitten with the new CB1000R in its blacked out / stealth variation.

LOL, yea...2020 offered Black and Red as the options...this year it is matte black metallic (not sure how you have matte and metallic at the same time?) or pearl grey...i agree though...some actual colours would be nice...maybe a nice yellow, lava orange, bright blue (like that 911 colour we like), etc.
