Aside from being fantastic looking those LED headlights really set it off. IIRC they are not legal here yet? BMW is also testing the waters with them although I'm not sure where I read that - maybe it was in Wheels on the weekend.
I think that LED headlights that are in other ways 'standard' are perfectly legal. That is: a low beam and a high beam controlled by a switch. Either the American beam pattern or the ECE beam pattern and of course total light emission within the limits. LED lights like that are just a different 'bulb' in the light.
The NTHSA is fussing about headlights that, 'see' ahead of you and alter the beam pattern and brightness of individual parts of the light unit so as to keep the high beams on while not dazzling oncoming drivers. Some of the LED lights on new FGCs do this in their home market.....and the sooner they come here for us oldsters with our slow light accommodation and old retinas the better.
