Ahhh shhh1t.
« on: September 06, 2012, 12:43:25 am »
My dog just got skunked.   Literally.

Out to the back yard for nightly fence check and a pee, she runs back in, runs upstairs and starts rubbing her face on the floor.

It smells funky.

Gave her a emergency shower and febrezed the whole carpeted area.
Still the smell permeates.

Blech. Stinks.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

1 quart (.95 liters) of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, a quarter cup (59 milliliters) of baking soda and one teaspoon (5 milliliters) of liquid detergent and lather him up.  After five minutes, rinse off your pup and he should be as good as new.  Peroxide could fade the hair though.  Otherwise, go to a pet store and they sell stuff that will neutralize it.

Tomato juice bath is an old wives tale..

Maybe so, but it works.

Surely worked on our Golden Retriever when I was in high school.

Nasty buggers, those skunks. And fearless.

But I think I got the most smell out with the emergency shower last night.

Can't smell it this morning on her. ( or maybe my nose got used to the smell)
She normally doesnt like bath but she seemed glad to be in one last night.

Apparently it can blind a dog if the spray gets directly in the eyes.

I just used dog shampoo and warm water.

If after work, the smell is still there, I'll try the peroxide remedy

My parent's dog got skunked about a month ago, and they used this peroxide treatment on him.  Worked like a charm, can't smell anything.  His hair color didn't even fade, he's still jet black.

Could have worst, your pup could have run into a Porcupine

Was at the vet in July and a Bloodhound came in with a face full, felt almost sick seeing the poor dog :'(
