Lunenburg, NS
« on: August 27, 2012, 02:04:33 pm »
The family and I spent last week on the south shore of NS in Lunenburg.  We stayed in a really nice B&B right along the ocean and had a wonderful time.  The weather was perfect as well as it was very warm and sunny every day.  I haven't been down that way in a couple of years and I totally forgot how beautiful it is there.  I'd love to rent a cottage sometime for the summer and work from there as it would be a terrific place to spend the summer.  My daughter and I went whale watching but unfortunately all we saw were some seals and harbour porpoises.  Oh well, the scenery was beautiful from the water.

And just a few pics from our vacation.

Well Keh-vin, it is flat most of the way for good fuel economy, just one road to follow***  and mrs tpl who went and drove around the maritimes last fall in her Fit can attest to how great it looks.

***  welllll  following just the TC through Montreal in a big truck and a trailer might be an excuse for a detour.

We have friends who used to live in Lunenburg, so we were there often and loved it.

If you go further down the coast to Liverpool, there are incredible beaches, just outside of Brooklyn there is Beach Meadows, and it's incredible.

Who knew that parts of NS had a climate where you could grow a magnolia tree?

The little village of Chester (just up the coast towards Halifax) is also pretty cool. Turns into quite the party place during race week!  ;D

We actually spent an afternoon in Liverpool and went to a beach there.  IIRC, it was called Carters beach.........it was almost Caribbean like.  Just beautiful.

I regret not going to Lunenburg when my wife and I were in NS 11 years ago.  I vowed to return to the Maritimes to see more of it.

Yep...It's a UNESCO world heritage site. The whole "South Shore" of NS is very pretty.

Nice to see something other than tan or grey stucco on the houses.   :)

Great pics!

I can't wait to see the East coast, although I'm worried I'll never want to leave.

Maybe so... but the Maritimes do have a bit of a problem with precipitation in winter.  Not so cold as Ont perhaps but more snow. Not to mention that the Hurricanes can be still quite big storms as they die up there.
