2012 Olympics
« on: August 03, 2012, 04:05:50 pm »
Anybody watching?  I am always fascinated by the sheer physical talent of these top world athletes, and am very proud of how our Canadians are doing everything to 'Own the Podium' this year.   :)

Have not watched one second. I watched some of the 201o Winter Games but I am losing interest with most sports.

Catching the highlights. I always wish Canada would do better but I enjoy watching stories about Canadians that do win medals.

I can't believe some chick fell off her horse. I don't care if its hard, its the Olympics. (yes, I'm glad she's ok)

The doping and cheating drags down credibility though.

Still, cool show.

I've been soaking up everything at every opportunity.  But for me, it's all about the sprints.  Going to be a heck of a weekend.

We've been away with no tv, but I'll watch some this week.

That said, I'd LIKE to be able to watch some competition, but, as ever, the coverage is generally interviews with athletes, talking heads nattering about something stupid, standings, summaries, and recaps, repeats, and cultural/interest pieces, with tiny bits of competition in between.

God, I'd love to be able to actually see some competition.  But that's never possible with Canadian Olympic coverage.

Really?  I find the complete opposite.  There are 4 dedicated networks (CTV, TSN, Sportsnet, OLN) airing coverage live from about 4 AM until 5PM.  I think it is incredible the amount of coverage we are getting.

Now the USA who get 3 hour taped snipets at 7 PM each night on NBC.....

Its on at the dealership i'm at all day long... they have been showing the worst stuff... today has been womens basketball, water polo, the womens 10000m, high jump and highlights...

yes the strength yada yada is amazing.... but so many of the sports are just silly. there are so many variations of every swimming/cycling/track event... i feel like I've seen them all already.

there have been some good stories, but i just don't find it all that interesting.. well.... some of it i find great. such as fit women in small outfits. but thats becuase i'm a perv.

i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Agree completely - and it's not like those networks are showing the same thing at the same time - there is lots of choice.

Have not watched any and won't.   I read the Times ( UK one) online and have to dodge the Olympics for the real news.

Clara Hughes kicks ass.  A crash at a road race in Gatineau, Quebec in late May, left her with a fractured vertebrae.  She continued to train and finished 5th in her event in London.

Nice interview with Brian Williams: http://www.ctvolympics.ca/videos/watch/cycling-clara-hughes-25210.html

Being at a cottage with no tv, and no cable at the laundromat, I have no idea how TSN and the other cable companies are doing.  Next week, I'll be able to see.

Maybe they've improved over the past efforts of cbc.  Hope so.

That said, I sure hope Canada never goes after the lympics again, unless it's 100% private effort with zero tax dollars.

I've had it on all week in the background while I work from home.  Like Mike mentioned, I've been totally impressed with the coverage.  I watched the Federer/Del Portro match today which was awesome and also caught the women's football team beat GBR.  I'm not interested in the summer Olympics near as much as the winter Olympics but I still try and watch as much as I can.

I'm glad the athletes are competing and giving it their all, but I'm not interested in watching.

Have not really been watching although I have sort of followed the headlines. Depressing though, all very political.

Reason why I haven't watched is that I'm at work :P Its usually on the TVs but can't be bothered to go over and look.

I've watched a few minutes here and there.  I hope to watch some of the mountain bike races on the 11th and 12th.
