Well, cross country trip is a go. But wait… it gets worse!

Wife is spending a month or so back east, but I’ve got to hop on a plane and come back home. Flight is already booked on WestJet: 5 hours in a 737. Shoot me now.  :P

Yes, all her family is in Quebec. Gaspésie, so it’s a real drive from here. I’m only going as far as Quebec City then will fly home.

The Crosstrek is pretty comfortable, but the Yukon is definitely more comfortable. I would probably suck it up and take the Crosstrek, but my wife thinks otherwise. Oh, and she just had back surgery in February, so I’m not going to pressure her on vehicle choice.

Honestly, the whole plan is kinda ridiculous. Even with last minute tickets, we could both fly out and rent a car for about what driving there and back will cost. But so far she’s adamant, so looks like that’s what we’ll do. The good news is the original plan was to pull the trailer there and back. $5,000 in gas for that one!  ::)

Would love to meet up if it works out. Would be fun to do a cross country meet and greet with a bunch of folks, but I think we’ll be a bit pressed for time.  :-\

^^ Was thinking probably stay in Canada, but haven’t really decided. Maybe each way once? (I’ll probably fly out again in July/Aug and help with the drive back.)

And Crosstrek might be back on the table. She’s thinking no dog and no bike now. I’d kinda like to do it in the Crosstrek, but it isn’t as comfortable, so we’d probably only do 6-7 hour days and take an extra day or two to get there.

Got back from that x-country trip, and surprisingly, it wasn’t terrible. The secret is not to drive 14-hour days like when I was young and dumb.  :P

Spaced it out to do around 800 km/day over five days, and it was actually quite pleasant. The Yukon is the perfect vehicle for this, IMO - lots of room, and comfortable. Spent the whole time driving between 100-120 km/h, which made for a stress-free drive, not having to worry about cops (like I did when I was young and dumb.) Zero need for some 400 HP autobahn slayer for a trip on this continent (again, IMHO.)

Didn’t really add up all the receipts, but the computer showed 13-14 l/100km pretty consistently. Yeah, that does kinda suck. Huge range was really nice though: well over 1,000 km/tank, so only had to fill up once per day.

Would have been nice to meet up with folks along the way, but it just wasn’t that kind of a trip. Did spend four days in Quebec City though, and that was great. I think Guy lives at/near Mont Ste. Anne? Didn’t realize it was so close to the city. What a fantastic spot.

The Yukon somewhere in Michigan:

Great pic and great trip.

Got back from that x-country trip, and surprisingly, it wasn’t terrible. The secret is not to drive 14-hour days like when I was young and dumb.  :P

In April I foolishly drove from Charlotte NC to Tuscon AZ in 2 days which was basically 2 x 15 hours of driving (3200 km) plus fuel and pee stops. I took a nap in the passenger to get some zzzz's'. Full on zombie mode. Coming back I took 3 days from Great Sand Dunes CO to Charlotte NC (2650 km). Much smarter.

I found in the USA once west of the Mississippi the speed ramps up and all I saw was Yukons, Suburbans, F250, F350 (plus GM and Dodge equivilants) flying by me at 85-90 mph (137 - 145 kph). They must give away fuel down there.

National Nude Day and National Tape Measure Day are both celebrated tomorrow, July 14th. Coincidence? I think not.

Brother got rear ended by some "Bruh" idiot driving a Jeep.

Brother drives a full size Lincoln MKS. Insurance rental agreement says the rental will be "similar" size to what he's currently driving.

Got there and they tried to give him a Chevy Spark! LOL [emoji38]
