Friend of mine just picked up an interesting car: 2011 BMW 535i Gran Turismo xDrive. Interesting thing about these cars is that despite the 5-series name they're effectively a 7-series hatchback. $11k, 200k on it, includes a three year warranty and has been serviced by our local Euro mechanic for the last six years. Looking forward to checking it out and taking it for a spin.

I wonder if that's my mother's old vehicle.

What colour was it?

It was a dark grey with brown leather.  She had a 328 with a very similar colour scheme prior the 535.

I'm curious if anything has changed since this article was published. If not, further proof that insurance companies are pure scum.

https://cyclingmagazine.ca/advocacy/this-vancouver-cyclist-is-being-charged-thousands-to-repair-the-car-that-hit-him/

We don't know for sure who was at-fault.  He says the car ran a stop sign.  Maybe, ICBC sees it another way.

In Manitoba, if the car driver was at-fault, we would not bill the cyclist for the damages.

Even if the cyclist was at fault, would the cyclist get billed here in Manitoba?

I'm trying to think of the 'penalties' that a driver incurs when you have an at-fault accident - you pay a surcharge to renew your driver's license, and you lose discount on your insurance.  I suppose if a cyclist also has a driver's license that they need to keep, (like myself and countless others, when we ride our bikes), they could impose the surcharge on our license when it comes time to renew.

But what about the cyclists who ride bikes because they don't have driver's licenses.  To my knowledge, MPI would have zero recourse to go after them...?

Bubba, you would definitely know more about this than I do.

Interesting, I'll have to ask what the colour scheme is.

This article always comes to mind when I think of the GT: https://www.bmwblog.com/2011/05/23/bmw-5-series-gt-sales-disappointing-3-series-wagon-might-stay/

Basically, BMW expected the GT to appeal to 5-series wagon buyers. Instead, those buyers went to Mercedes instead, and the GT ended up being bought by 7-series customers.

Funny thing is my friends used to have a 2009 535i wagon, and ended up replacing it with a 2013 Mercedes E350 wagon.

Gotta like that self-righting option Chevy has

https://www.businessinsider.com/chevrolet-gives-silverado-to-teen-whose-truck-was-in-tornado-2022-3

Chevrolet just gave a new Silverado and $15,000 to a teen whose truck was seen being tossed around during a tornado in a viral video

Best advertising money they ever spent

Nice!  Currently car hunting for my oldest also. Trying to stay under 6k but with the current market that doesn’t give much for options.

Yes, been looking for those also.  Nothing much in SK, most anything available is from shady sellers.  I've extended my search into Alberta.
