Yep. Walked into work for 8 and the sun was just rising as I got there.

New colleague’s 2010 Outback with 125,000 km is having the dreaded HG issue.  Local shop quoted $4600 to fix it.  When I indicated that I had heard a lot about this problem, she was confused about how I knew what I knew.   ;D

She’s still unsure as to whether to ditch the car and just have one household vehicle, or get it fixed.  I explained that I am not the person to ask, because when a car betrays me, I dump its sorry ass.  Told her about the Santa Fe crapping put on me after a remote drive, and it turns out she experienced the same thing with her 2010 Santa Fe!   That’s when she bought the used Scoob, and here we are.

It’s amazing how much information is shared here, and how much we absorb without realizing it.

I'd try one of the top shelf head gasket sealants as a hail Mary before selling/fixing

Agreed with this. I recommended this to a Forester client a couple of months ago, but they insisted on putting a used engine in the thing...

My local Subaru dealer actually had a decent price for replacing the head gaskets in my H6, should have taken them up on it in retrospect.
Used low mileage engine was much worse decision

Car went into the water at the cable-ferry landing down the road from my house.  Not the first time but it's been several years since the last time it happened.  Also, most have driven into the water without the ferry being there, not driven off the ferry itself. Don't remember that ever happening before.  What also makes it interesting this time is that the ferry is on reduced service now because of a CUPE strike.  Most people know this and have been avoiding the crossing until service gets back to normal.  Not sure what happened this time.

A old Santa Fe no one recognizes has been parked in our cul de sac the last week and a half. Both control stalks broken off and hanging beside the steering wheel

Odd

Probably stolen, then abandoned. Anyone called the cops?

Yeah, that's the really odd part, not stolen apparently according to bylaw. Whoever owns it just dropped it there for some reason and isn't picking it up.

Has to be some story there.

The neighbor whose house it ended up in front of is trying to get the city to tow it

The thing that bugs me about the Dairy farming industry is that they limit supply to increase the price.  I have visited with hundreds of farmers here in NB over the years, the farmers who are doing the best financially are the Dairy farmers.  They always have the nicest equipment, nicest homes, nicest trucks, etc.  I have heard more than a few of them say that they throw milk away as they exceed their quota on the regular.

Now I'm not saying that Farmers shouldn't get paid well, or that we shouldn't protect our Canadian farmers, but there should be a happy medium.  It's not an easy job by any means and is literally a 365 day per year job.

Meanwhile the beef cattle farmers haven't seen a price increase in their livestock since the 80's.  They are on the other end of the spectrum, no regulation, the meat processors and grocery stores make all the profits while the farmers just scrap by.  They are both cow farmers, there shouldn't be this big of a gap between them.
