a type of hawk i haven't seen before, (i've only ever seen red tail hawks in town before) knocked a pigeon out of the sky into my back yard, right in front of my dog the day before yesterday(sunday).

the hawk chased it into my yard, landed a couple feet in front of my dog, and got startled by the dog, and left...

disabled(for the time being) pigeon lounged around my yard for a whole day, and disappeared yesterday.  might be under my deck, but it seemed it got its flight back little bit, so hopefully it left.

We do have a birdwatching thread.    That sounds a lot like an event that happened in my yard last week, in that case it was a Kestrel and I think a Bluejay.    Kestrel's are tiny and swift.

forgot about bird watching thread...  never been in it i think.

it wasn't kestrel.   it was bigger than raven, and greyish black in coloring. 

very small beak.  it took off so quick after noticing my dog, didn't have chance to photograph it..

That would be a treat to see...


I'm going to default to Sharp Shinned Hawk...since they are notorious bird feeder killers...so it's not uncommon to see them in your backyard.





Second guess might be a Cooper's Hawk ( looks like killing a dove in the photo)

We had a Sharp Shinned around last year thinning out the starling population. He also took a pigeon right under our kitchen window on the patio.

Stumbled on this photo of Fredericton taken in the 1880s. The house you see just right of centre on the river is currently a bed and breakfast. The field you see below that is roughly where my house stands. Thought it was an interesting photo.

I don't feel like working.  I put in a bunch of extra hours this week (because WFH and it's easy).  I feel like I've run out of steam.  Feeling a bit down doesn't help.

I just found out that my do-nothing 18 year old stepson is eligible for Income Assistance, and could get $700-$800/month.  I guess I get to start charging him rent now.  Damn, I should have called them last June when he graduated, because they don't back date it.

:censor:, man, I've tried.  But his Mom is a softie.  Pisses me off, he sits around the house and does :censor: all.  I already tried cutting of his internet, but his Mom wasn't having any of it, and honestly, it's not worth the fight. 

But yes, he's a leech.  By the time I was his age I was holding two jobs, and getting ready to move out of my folk's house.
