At 47 now, I got my first pair of reading glasses today.  I only need them for reading small print, but it certainly seems weird having to wear glasses now.

So fast forward three months and my eyes have gotten progressively worse.  When I first started wearing three months ago, it was only to read small fine print.  Now, I am having a hard time even reading emails, messages, etc on my cell phone.  I purchased a couple of cheaper $30 pairs of reading glasses from Shoppers and have been using them since.  So since I went the cheaper route, do you think that by using cheaper glasses it's actually deteriorating my eyes quicker?  I've never had glasses up until late September so this is all new territory for me.   ???

The cheap readers are a band-aid solution, and they have never worked well for me.  I went to an optometrist to get an actual eye test and then measured my pupillary distance (PD) with the help of a friend.  For some reason, these clowns guard PD information jealously, because they want you to buy glasses from them.  Once you know your PD, though, you can order online.  I use clearly.ca and pay less than half of what optometrists would charge.  I have some readers that only cost me $40-$50, and they are made for my eyes and work far better than generic, one-PD-fits-all cheapies.

Fack, it's funny you mention that Brig.  When I had my eyes tested back in late August they gave me a sheet with what my prescription is.  I went to order online from the same place my wife get hers from (Zennie I believe), but when I went to order it asked for my PD, which was not on my prescription.  I called the optometrist that did my eye test and they refused to give it to me.  WTF?  So that's why I ended up going to Shopper's.  Fackers!   ::)

I'd say that's pretty special!  911's?  I see tons of them around here.  I haven't seen a single LC500.

Yah, LC500 is nice. Recently I've been leaning more towards special "investment grade" type of Porsches...997 GTS, 987 Spyder...but yesterday I was looking at 986 boxsters so I'm all over the place, as usual :)

Ah, don't do that.  If you buy an 'investment grade' Porsche, you'll never drive it, for fear of putting miles on it and driving down the value.  I think you should buy a driver's car.  Either a Porsche with higher miles, that you won't regret racking up the mileage, or another car that doesn't appreciate like an old 911.

I hear you. But I know myself and I know how much I drive in general, which is not much (i.e. 36,000 km over 5 years in my 335) so whatever I buy it will not be driven much.

However, given that, I do like the idea of buying something with high mileage to get a better deal. I'm not looking for a garage queen for sure.

Have a ghost turning on my home theater. Doesn't watch anything, just turns it on to annoy me.
