Going car shopping with my brother and nephew today. X fingers it's not all shyte.
1st car, 2004 Civic (stay away, right?). I found some nice Foci & G5's/Cobalts. Good nuff for first car.
You must hate your nephew...
Maybe, he wants the nephew to learn about auto repair. ![:rofl2:](https://www.autos.ca/forum/Smileys/CarTalk/rofl.gif)
Tight budget. He wanted to spend $3000. Mom wanted him to spend $6000. Get a nice car. Starting to think all private sales are curbsiders. So much crap. 1st car, the 2004 Civic. Shoddy rust repair, but all metal, the guys works in and around where MPI auctions the writeoffs so probably not his first rodeo. Bought it a month ago for his FIL and now they don't need it 'cause he's old and ill (WTF really?) Drove nice and shifted like a Honda. $2995
Next car, 2005 Altima, $4500. POS. $1500 car. Lots of those if you're looking under $5g. 180,000 km, looked like 1,800,000. My car is mint in comparison and I've got over 200.
Drive back to 2004 Civic. He's test driving with someone else and doesn't get back to us.
Find 2005 Civic. Auto. Same kind k's as the 2004. Nicer body, the 1/4's had no rust at all like the 04 must have. AC, cruise, PW and locks (though the right side doesn't work)...safetied yet the back tires are toast (he removed the good tires and alum aftermarket wheels and put 4 "OK" tires on it after he got it safetied). Drives fine...air con works...guy barely moves off his $3500 asking, nephew buys the car.
I was hoping the guy/gal with the 2003 Sentra with 89k would get back to us but they didn't. Bummer.
They get home and of all the things we missed when we were there...turns out the car is a rebuild. It's right there on the insurance card. "REBUILD". My brother feels
![Sad :(](https://www.autos.ca/forum/Smileys/CarTalk/sad.gif)
because he was there to help guide...I feel a little sheepish because I could've thought of that too. Asked the first guy...didn't think of asking this one if it was a rebuilt title. Been a long day by then. Still, it looked better than the '04 and being 15 yr old it had a few scrapes but no dents and only a wee bit of rust on the inner lip at the bottom of one door. A newer Dodge truck will be rustier.
Oh well, if it lasts three years it's still cheaper than a newer car.
