I live and work in downtown Ottawa.

First year in Ottawa I drove my fit 33 000 km (LOTS of road trips). It flooded, and I almost didn't buy a replacement. THen the 4mo 6MT sportwagen was released and I was smitten.

But I see my driving has basically fallen off a cliff; I was at I drove 25000 km in 2018, and I'm on track to do far less this year. I'm only at 32000 now - I will drive to NB an do some road tripping this summer, so I might finish the year having driven 20 000. Most of this driving is associated with camping/skiing/hiking.

It's definitely better for the planet I drive less, but I wish car sharing etc were more cost-effective, especially in winter for winter tires and the likes. And that we had manual transmission rentals  ;D. Or if we had more public transit to provincial parks etc - I think it's crazy there's still no shuttle to Gatineau park in Ottawa, which is FAR closer than some of the locations both OC Transpo and STO service

Sir O are you thinking about selling it? Or will you ride out the worst depreciation? Also is there a show n shine somewhere?

Wow, I can't imagine driving that little. I drive so many different vehicles (including my own 3) that it's impossible for me to keep track on how much I really drive. I did some rough math and with 500-750 (500 on the low end) on each press car, and having cars at least 45 weeks of the year, I'm doing 22,500 on press cars alone. Plus 30-40,000 on my own Lexus, 10,000 combined between Aston/S2000, that comes to about 75,000km at the absolute minimum. On top of that, the average press first drive trip is about ~300km to ~500km, and I do at least 25 of those per year, so let's say 10,000km. I wouldn't be surprised if most years I push 100,000km driven.

WOW!!!! How do you manage to put 30-40k on the Lexus with the press cars? What's your daily commute like? I've had my JGC for almost 3yrs now (will be the 3rd year anniversary on June 17th) and I'm sitting at 60k as of this week, it had 1,100kms on it when I bought it. Also, when you do the rough math on it, you spend ~1450 hrs in a car over the course of a year, or roughly 25% of the time you are awake is spent driving  :o  ;D

That is insane. I thought my 30k a year was a decent chunk, haha.

When I was travelling on the road for work, I did 60,000 km per year for work alone, not including any recreational travelling or chores on the weekends.

Now my daily commute to work is 11 km one way, but with a daughter at university that's 500 km away, who needed quite a few trips to help her with a broken ankle and hospital visits, I still seem to rack up a lot of km.
My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

Yep, bilateral, broken on both sides.  her foot was 90 deg to her leg.  It's healed up nicely now, but it really screwed her term at university, since it was winter and the campus is one big hill.  She had to drop a couple of courses but did well in everything else, so it caused a bit of a hassle but nothing that can't be overcome.

Coming to the realization that I don't really need a car. I still don't have 1000kms on it.

It's unfortunate too, because it's by far the best car I've owned.

I'm in uncharted territory here, for me at least.

Come to Altona for pizza...bring some friends.  ;D

Maybe a Wpg meetup and everyone gets to drive the other guys's cars!

I put on approx 80k km per year.  Mostly in the F-150 for work.  That averages ~ 60k km/year.

Met up with GBA and SHB yesterday evening. GBA set up SHB's new belt drive bicycle. It's a pretty cool looking device.

It was good to put a face to the name.

Then I totally imposed by asking him to deliver my new TV to the apartment. Nice guy that he is, he did so.

I showed him the battle scars on the Duke and he took a few minutes to poke around the GLI.

We'll have to meet up again when we're not so pressed for time.

Hey, any time anybody needs my truck or my labour for something, I'm game.  Be it an Ikea run, or a dump run, building a deck, or whatever.  Just buy me a beer and we're good!

Sure.  For anywhere outside of local, I'll charge .75c/km.

Hmm. At .75 cents per kilometer, and approx 4500 km, that'd be about $35. Not crazy. I'll keep you in mind for your services  ;D
