Wonder what this was about, seems like more than a drug raid?

My wife bought herself a new keyboard a couple weeks ago.  The 115 yr old piano just aint what it used to be.  It's funny that when she starts to play, the dog gets up and goes and lies down beside her.  Guess he likes piano too.  I used to fall asleep on the floor beside the piano when she played too.  Very relaxing. Guess he is my dog... :P

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of ads for those Chef's Plate type things, you sign up for a delivery of a box of food with 'step by step instructions'.

Oddly enough, the idea of 'step by step instructions' sounds a lot like 'a recipe'.

Seriously, people can't look at a recipe, come up with an ingredient list, and buy the stuff on their own?  You have to sign up for some service to deliver it for you?

Well there's a few advantages to the food boxes:

- properly vetted recipes
- no choice overload as there are only a handful of recipes to choose from
- no waste because you get exactly the ingredients you need

We've tried a few of the boxes and they're pretty convenient. I wouldn't pay full price for them, but there's all sorts of deals to be had. We're in the middle of a few deliveries right now and between two services we're ending up with 36 servings of food for a grand total of $22.

The disadvantages are the cost (when paying full price) and how much packaging there is.

Well, yes, it’s expensive to pay someone to copy a recipe and also buy your groceries and ship them to you.

We've been using Chef's Plate regularly for well over a year now. Four nights a week of not having to plan dinners or go for groceries is a win in my book. Maybe it's just because groceries are so expensive here, but even at full price I find Chef's Plate to be no more expensive.

I just bought groceries for tonight's dinner (Chef's Plate doesn't come again until Friday): 24 bucks for a piece of salmon, 3 bucks for a package of mint, plus tomatoes, cucumber, broccoli, and that doesn't count couscous and whatever else we already had in the cupboard that we'll be using. Yeah, tonight's dinner will be better than what Chef's Plate sends, but it sure won't be any cheaper.

Having said that, the Chef's Plate stuff is generally pretty good. I'd say the quality of the produce they send us is consistently better than what's available in the local supermarkets.

A guy at work this morning was complaining about a whining noise coming from his truck, someone not knowing if it was a diesel asked if it was turbocharged.
He replied "It might be, it's a Hemi,  are they turbocharged?"

I told him to hand in his Man Card.

(He also rides a Harley)  ;D

Where Chef's Plate or Hello Fresh make a lot of sense is that you are not throwing out a lot of stuff six months later, where you just didn't end up using that whole jar of whatever.  So, more expensive per plate than if you cook the dish frequently, but cheaper than if you tend to buy all the ingredients for a recipe, make it once, then later on throw out a bunch of herbs/seasonings/etc.

We've done Hello Fresh a number of times when my sister has given us a coupon code, but not in a while.  That said, we've re-made the recipes since then with our own ingredients, so we've been pretty happy with the results.

Looks like Kijiji no longer allows you to pick a search radius, just a location.

That makes it horrible to search on now.

Well, that's dumb.  It was great when I could set the radius to 200km.  That would cover MTL to Kingston.
