I was a bit surprised by the lack of motorcycles on the road yesterday. Perfect riding conditions, I might have seen 4-5 bikes out.

I think the jacked up insurance rates and rough time in the oil patch are having an effect.

The difference between a 400cc and a 500cc bike here amounts to $600/year with the maximum clean driving discount applied.
My neighbour has a bike about 30 years old , but has not put it on the road because insurance is too much

I think you are correct to say insurance is slowly killing the bike industry , I read  Harley Davidson said that is one reason to build bikes outside of US, the bike sales are drop  in the US

Driving Tip of the Day*:

#howtomakethemdowhatyouwant
#gravelroadrules
#movethefarmerover...

I really didn't know what to call this or where to put it.  But thought it was either here or start a whole new thread just for driving tips.  Unfortunately, at the moment, I only have but one.  This one has to do with getting people on gravel to slow down instead of passing you at full speed.  Who likes rock chips in the windshield? I know I don't.  So it goes like this...

Say you're booking it along at a comfy 120-130 on a nice 3 track (there's never a good 4th track) gravel road with a good amount of loosey-goosey stuff just outside the tracks.  Colin McRae style, in control.  In the distance you see an approaching vehicle.  It turns out it's a truck.  Chances are good it's Farmer Joe, and Farmer Joe OWNs this road so he aint gonna slow down for any city/townie in a car.  But you, you need to slow him down.

How do you do that? Considering your speed and not knowing even if you do slow down that he will?

Well, the answer is fairly simple really.  You make him think you ARE the idiot on the gravel road!   ;D  I call it, The Ken Block.  Seems like a cool name for something I named after myself.  What you do, assuming you are the one in control and not an actual idiot who doesn't know how to drive on gravel, is hit the brakes fairly hard, and pull slightly into the loose stuff, causing your car to appear to be out of control as you fishtail a wee amount.  You must do this with at least a half mile or so so there is time for everyone to actually slow down.  Not soon enough and you might find yourself being part of the bumper of a big ol' 2500 RAM pickemup truck.

This gives the appearance to Farmer Joe that you are going to kill him...at which point he also hits his brakes, and then the two of you can go by at about 50 kmh each...it helps if you maintain a wide-eyed "I almost died" look on your face as you go by with a little wave of the hand...and everybody's safe.  He thinks you're stupid, you know you just won and had him in control the whole time, and then it's drop a gear or three and bang! Back to Colin McRae-ing it the rest of the way home!  Hey, you're in a rush, you gots places to go!

*not a real driving tip.  Don't be an idiot.  Who do you think I am?! Pfft... ::)  You should never drive more than 80 kmh on gravel.  Think of the paint chips!  Even 80 is probably too fast. You should probably just stay off the gravel entirely.  That way Farmer Joe won't bust up your windshield.  And I can go 130.  ;D

I see that Ford is dumping the anti-scalping laws.  I have no issue with that, the idea that the government needs to regulate buying and reselling of something that does not involve the government in any way is silly in the first place.

I also don't care but
One thing I found funny, they use to go crazy on the guy selling tickets on the street corner but if Ticket master sells tickets with a mark up it was OK  ::)

It's time to stop the government handouts and to let Bombardier die.

It’s Canada’s Tesla.  They’re gonna build a big tent in La Pocatiere, and get some 24s of Molson, and a bunch of welders.  She’ll be all done in no time.

As the TTC has a street car barn with big cranes and pits etc etc.    The TTC has had its direct labour rebuild streetcars from the rust up so all the gear is in TO.

Why can't Bombardier ship a team of mechanics/engineers to Toronto and get the job done faster?    Too easy?  TTC workers don't work in  French?   Who knows.

I was mowing the lawn, and I saw a mouse.  Each time I came by one area, it would move over.  Into the uncut grass.  I was so happy when it went the other way, into the cut grass, and then under the trampoline, so I didn’t have to worry about hitting it.

Contract. TTC doesn’t have to do anything to help, BBD has to provide working equipment.  TTC isn’t going to waste time or resources to help BBD.

Curious is all, but who would rock this colour for a Boxster?  I really like it a lot because itis different, just not sure I'd actually pull the trigger.  Seeing it in person would definitely help though I guess.

I've seen a 911 in this color in didn't like it.  Initially it was "cool" (because different) but wouldn't want it.

I certainly wouldn't break someone's balls for wanting it though.  It is cool.

Miami Blue! Its nice, but could get tiresome after a while. This example has been for sale for a while. Highly optioned and definitely looks like a custom order. Wonder what changed the owners mind.
I love it when a plan comes together.
