Realized that the TV hasn't been on in months, even with my daughter here. So I cancelled the cable again.

Sasktel also has a promo so they upgraded my internet to 25Mbps from 10 Mbps for a few dollars less than what I was paying.
Still no indication on when the neighbourhood gets fibre though.

In the end, looks like about a $65/month savings. About what I spend on gas.  :)

That's what I'm waiting for. The new neighbourhoods all get it. The neighbourhoods with the oldest infrastructure are being upgraded. My area is caught in the middle.

We recently had Sasktel drop our monthly bill from $190 a month (TV, phone, internet) to $70/month for the next year.  Someone posted on social media about a great deal they got with Sasktel, word spread quickly, so Mrs. BC called and Sasktel said they would honour it for us, even though it wasn't supposed to be a "promo".  Oh, and the internet was upgraded from 5 to 10Mbps on top of it.

I had a fight with Bell Aliant a bit today, my "bundle" termed ended and they wanted to jack up my pricing.  I asked for the new customer rate again....to which they replied they can't do that.  So I asked if I canceled my service, how long would I have to wait to be a "new customer" again? They just gave me the pricing  ;D

$130 + HST for 300 Mbps unlimited, an HD-PVR (they threw in a Food Network channel add-on), and a home phone line with all the calling features and long distance.  I'm happy with that deal for the next two years.

My wife's Sirius also auto-renewed last week at $248 per year...I had forgotten to cancel ahead of time.  Called and got a full refund, and signed up for 6 months for a total of $47.  I can live with that, too.

^ That is pretty sweet.

Access Cable has been offering some pretty low rates, and I thought about switching for the better bandwidth they offer. I wondered if the deal SaskTel offered was in response to that.

The brother and sister in law had 8.5mbps in Brandon....weirdest speed I've ever heard of. Their internet prices are insane though, they are paying about $50 for 25 or 30 mbps.

Could be, but the when the service guy came around to make the internet changes he said they had 15 service guys just in Warman because of how fast the word spread about the promo.  He also said it wasn't really supposed to be a "promo", just that people were calling in and saying "so and so got this deal, I want it to".  Which is what the Mrs. did.  ;D

I have Shaw's 150 Mbps (15 Mbps up) with 1TB bandwidth (which I'm nowhere close to exceeding) $79 a month. Price goes up to $105/mo once the two year agreement is up. I might switch to Telus' 150/150 down/up at the end of it which is $85/mo normally and $49/mo for the first 12 months for new customers. We'll see, I like Shaw Go Wifi.

No cable or fiber optic here. So I get wireless. Average speed is 8. Unlimited use from midnight until 7am or so....which doesn't count towards my monthly cap. Excess use is cheap too.

$55 tax in.

I would not willing drop below the 100 Mb/s and unlimited downloads   that I have...but I don't think we have ever used more than 100GB in a month.   Actually I am not sure if the unlimited doesn't become 300 GB in a year os so, the offer might only have been for 3 years.  ( Just checked, it is unlimited. Rogers must have some serious bandwidth to a POP ( backbone connection)  somewhere in their system)

10 years ago when we left downtown TO  we had a list of things we insisted on.  Mains water and sewage, mains natural gas and internet at least 25 Mbps.

I don't think SaskTel has any data caps. They haven't on the packages I've had with them at least.

Went to see IQ at her workplace yesterday.  Beautiful place...but kinda sad and very humbling.

Anyways, while on the 401 I slid in behind a truck.  I let the laser cruise do its thing.  I'm guessing by the distance of was just on the very edge of the draft/wake from the truck.  My normal consumption is about 9-9.2L/100km on the highway at 110km/h.  On this trip it was back and forth between 9-10 depending on road contour.  However, once in the draft of the truck, the on-board computer (it's very accurate) said I was now 7.2-7.8L/100km.

Quite a difference!

About a week ago, I did the same thing. Slipped in behind the a semi, reset the adaptive cruise control following distance, so that I was shielded and was pleased to see the "current" fuel consumption numbers drop dramatically. When I'm not in rush, which is almost never, hence the handle, I think as long the truck ahead is at or just above the posted speed limit, I might just do that again.

I was pretty surprised by the massive bump in economy.

Just stay at least 3-4 seconds behind a semi or the rock chips will negate those savings.

around here the big hazard is the wood chip trucks.  little bits of sand and wood chips are always flying off them, it's like getting a sandblast job.

I guess it depends how close.  I was behind one for several minutes. I'm guessing my following distance is 50m or so..maybe more.  I know I'm just on the edge of the vortex from the truck.

50 m would be pretty far, in GTA they would squeeze in 15 cars in that distance 😂
