When I refinanced the house, the banker asked if I wanted mortgage insurance. I agreed to get a quote done, just out of curiosity.
It came back at $115/month. Uh...

Yeah, expensive and I think often a scam. They call it post approval or something. They take your money now, then after you die they decide whether or not to approve you.

Saw a doctor once in your life for a possible heart condition? Sorry, not approved. On medication for some health issue? Sorry, not approved.

Then they just give back the premiums you paid and they're done with you.

Very expensive piece of insurance, please pass.

Also, if you think about it, the monthly premium does not decrease, but your outstanding mortgage amount does...
I love it when a plan comes together.

^Oh absolutely. Completely ridiculous. I expected it to be on the high side, but that blew me away.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

It wasn't that way for us.  On the mortgage application, we initialed to get the insurance.  Then 2-3 weeks later we got the full insurance application that asked all about your health, pre-existing conditions, etc.

Yup

Your new job should have supplemental life insurance in increments of $10K.  Buy your insurance there.

Wait, can mortgage debt pass onto children or something ??? or only spouse.

I had assumed the kids could just walk away from it and give the house back to the bank for liquidation. Spouse you can argue is another matter since divorce leads to asset split, so its fair to say it should also lead to a debt split especially on the debt that has financed what is likely the largest asset.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

The former Lady O and the kids aren't on the hook. If the rate was low enough, I'd put the insurance on there just to give them a boost. As it is, the mortgage would get settled with the estate. There's still lots of equity in the house. I've already paid her out for her portion of the existing equity.

This was more of an exercise in curiosity, as I have heard these types of products have been getting out of hand over the last few years. Suspicion confirmed.

My favorite new Super Hero car.

That should get you through any border crossing with a 21 gun salute.  Free speeding tickets.  Or something to that effect.

I bought an iPhone 6.

It's just easier to keep in touch with my daughter, who's big on Facetime and Apple messaging.

I feel so....mainstream.  :P

Saw Prism on the weekend...not bad for a bunch of old guys from Vancouver. Probably shouldn't be rockin' any more albums (the one new - from 2008 - song they played, uh, no, please stop) but for a free local festival band sponsored by someone, not bad, not bad at all (they aint Loverboy but they were all right).
