So when comedians tell racist jokes and pick on gays (or whoever) should they be fired from their day jobs (if they have one)?

No.

Do you think he should be fired?

It wasn't a joke.  It was harassment aimed directly at the reporter.

So if its a joke its ok to make "fun" of people?

Didn't say you did. I asked a new question. Personally I don't see the difference.

i guess the context in which the "making fun of" happens can make the difference.

I've heard many comedians perform, youtube, netflix, live, comedy radio, etc. and some of the comedians that are gay themselves that make fun of gays.   i guess if it's light hearted enough and audiences do not take offense, that's perfectly fine.

but i don't tend to listen to overtly vulgar comics.  (dice clay comes to mind)

in the case of the stupid guy being interviewed, the woman reporter did the right thing, obviously as she was clearly offended by the remarks by those guys and the guys should have stopped mouthing off at that point....., but i think that could have been taken off air before ramming it to him.

No, but when you direct and/or encourage a call to sexual violence at a specific person, and you've signed a Code of Conduct agreement with your employer, yes.

He actually threatened her, saying 'You're lucky we don't have a vibrator'.

I'm uneasy with the employer firing him for something done outside of work. However, the nature of the comments and the level of publicity the incident has garnered gives them at least some justification, in this case.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

However, the nature of the comments...

If he hadn't threatened the reporter by saying 'you're lucky we don't have a vibrator', I might agree with you.

I would think that, having said this in public, any Hydro One office he worked in would be considered a hostile workplace to women, under their own policies.

Some people shouldn't be allowed out in public, I guess.

Most likely. Maybe not wrongful dismissal but a large severance package for sure. It's super hard to dismiss an employee for cause and not be liable for severance.

I know a number of corporate execs. who deliberately put lousy employees on a path to quitting to avoid paying severance. They make the job intolerable.

So you'd have done zero differently, as I predicted because that's exactly what she did!  Honestly...I think he'd feel more shamed getting told off from the lady than you...doubly so because she had a camera so the world could see what a tool he is!

Where did I say anything about what her reaction was, good or bad.

All I said is you wouldn't have handled it any different than her.  And I was right.  (Only so much you can do anyways).
