I thought he was from Portland, or somewhere in the West anyway.

He was a pretty good fella.

Medford, Oregon I believe.

I never asked him about it, but at one point I had actually concocted a plan to buy a U.S. market BMW 3-Series wagon so I could get RWD. I'd have had to order it to get it exactly how I wanted it, but apparently U.S. dealers won't take factory orders from Canadians.

So I'd need an American to order it for me, maybe even register it, then sell it to me right after. A lawyer-type guy who I could trust and take care of the paperwork would be perfect. And a car guy who might understand such a crazy plan. And there was a BMW dealer in Medford...

Anyway, it was a harebrained scheme that never went anywhere. Although, I do sometimes pine after that RWD E90 wagon...  :-\

Couldn't handle the forum pressure. Looks a little fragile. Money thread didn't even exist back then  :rofl2:

Wasn't he a lawyer too?

Yes, an not the brown-noser type.

ZING!

If I end up in Pennsylvania....

Then again, I'm pretty shifty.  ;D

if you get and take the job will it be in the USA? If so will you be getting a "free trade" visa or a real one ( HB1 or something like that)

They seem to want a relatively long term commitment. I'll be paid in greenbacks. I'm not entirely sure which visa I'll have to get. Previously I've held TN1 Visas.

I'm planning on selling the house here. I'm not sure if I'll buy or rent something down there.

what does that do to your CPP/OAS/RRSP/Health Care?

The company pension is ok. It looks like I'll have to file with the IRS, and some form has to be submitted to CRA. I'll have corporate healthcare coverage in the US. I'm not sure about some of the details, but HR says they handle this kind of thing all the time. I guess I'll find out.

Make sure you're properly compensated for the additional administrative work / hassle involved with tax preparation when you live in the US and subsequently come back to Canada.
I love it when a plan comes together.

Karlsdarwin stopped over this afternoon.  We had a couple of beers and he gave me some great advice on how to improve my HT setup.  Thanks again, Tom!
