You don't need to put your phone in airplane mode anymore.  They don't even tell you to put it away.  So awesome

Yes I do when on a flight.

That doesn't sound right at all coming from the most selfish airplane passenger I know.   ;D

Not true, at least in Canada. Might be different in the States, but here, phones need to be put in airplane mode before takeoff.

Was on a flight a couple weeks ago and they were very clear. The woman behind me even caught hell from the flight attendant for chatting away as we were getting ready to push back.

Oh they don't like you talking, but they don't care otherwise.  And in the US they only tell you to put laptops away because they are heavy.

First class they won't bother you at all haha.  Different rules for different classes proves its not a technical thing.

I'm all packed now for 12 days in EU.  1 carry on bag houses all my stuff, 18 lbs.  Not bad!  Not sure what people are taking to need huge bags.  I even brought some dress shirts just in case.

On my recent flight, they made sure to tell everyone to turn ALL phones off (or in airplane mode) at take off.  Once in the air, they made an announcement that it was OK to use them.  Before landing..same things.

Must differ by airline.

Well just flew to San Fran last week.  They said just put away big things.

United uses WiFi on their plans for the in plane entertainment. They do not have screens anymore.  They expect you to bring a device and use it, with their WiFi so they let you keep them out.

Also if you want internet its not bad like $8 for the flight.

The rules are here: https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/managementservices-referencecentre-acs-700-700-005-303.htm

Cellphones need to be in airplane mode during flight (not just for takeoff and landing):

"Existing regulations for commercial aircraft require that all TPEDs be turned off and properly stowed when the aircraft engines are running. Some phones and other wireless devices have a special “flight” or “airplane” mode that turns off just the wireless radio parts of the device, for safe use on an aircraft where radio transmitters are not allowed. Therefore, “airplane” mode allows the user to safely use the non-wireless functions of a phone (such as music, games or organizer functions) on an aircraft during flight."

I live near a fire station and a police station.  Hearing quite a few sirens today - more than usual.  Hoping it's not heart attack calls, but... the snow is quite deep, and likely too much for some people.  My back is a bit sore from doing my patio this morning (a lot of twisting required), and I'm generally winter-hardy.   :-\

Canadian rules must be different from US rules.  Because how you going to use WiFi if your WiFi is off?  Haha

I forgot to mention yesterday, but when I driving home yesterday from Bangor, ME I saw a guy plowing his driving with his Subaru Outback.  Yep, that was a first I've seen of someone having a plow hooked up to an Outback.   :o

I'm not surprised.  I'm thinking of buying a recovery strap and charging $20 to pull people out of drifts around my area.

I believe that the FAA has now allowed cell phone use inflight. Transport Canada still not sure about that newfangled electricity.

I've worked down there a few times in the past, so I'm familiar with the turf. It would be a complete reset for sure.

The folks have a winter home close to Clearwater, so I'd be able to see them more often. I'd likely see the kids as often as I would if I stayed here.

It's going to take some thought.

I was in Cape Coral/Fort Myers around Christmas time, and the only positive thing about Florida is the weather, IMO.

It's definitely not all upside, that's for sure.

I sent in my paperwork. Turns out, a few others within the company have applied recently, so there is competition for the posting. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I heard Carillion Canada Inc. Is pulling out of the construction in Canada, they are still keeping their maintenance section going

::) FFS...its a bike app as well.

.....and?!?!? If this one just keeps track of it on your phone it wont affect Mr. Spandexs weekly calories burnt or whatever will it?? The app clearly says that uploading is merely an option.

FFS...Within 10 seconds I found several tracking apps for driving. You guys are doing this on purpose...right?

I am now. It's def not as nice as Strava. I should email them and ask if they could do a car app...or make sharing optional.  OTOH...I don't use it anyway...

Many generic navigation/GPS apps have that feature. Find one you like and download.
