The funniest thing about this situation is in the comment section of any of these articles are the amount of idiots defending these inbreds running into the fecking train. I'm sorry, you didn't comprende the no right turns on red....or did you miss the FECKIN TRAIN coming at you. This is just natural selection at this point, put a bigger bumper on the LRT and ramming speed!!!
Lighten up Francis.....

People are idiots and don't take the responsibility of driving seriously enough.

I've been a Daytimer / LMI planner book user forever.  I'm that guy who shows up at meetings with the big black leather binder.  Well today I decided to modernize and I ordered an iPad Pro 12.9 with the pencil.  Gonna try to take my notes, tasks, and scheduling with it.  Gonna be a big learning curve  :o :P

To follow up on this, it's almost life-changing in my day to day work now.  I have my admin send me PDF copies of any routine paperwork I need to read/annotate.  Microsoft To-Do is fantastic...creating daily smart to-do lists is pretty slick...and I load it up in side-by-side view with my calendar app (Fantastical).  I also have my home to-do lists and calendar overlayed on my work ones.  And I'm sure I'm barely scraping the surface of what I could do with this thing....

BTW, GoodNotes is the best $12 I've spent in a while (barely buys you 2 craft beers these days).

WHY DID I NOT MODERNIZE SOONER?

I stopped using an old school logbook a few years ago for documenting my work activities and have rarely used a pen or pencil since.  I'm starting to lose my motor skills for writing.  The odd time I do it looks like chicken scratch.  :P

A friend of mine has leased the following cars:

2017 silver base automatic Impreza
2020 white base automatic Impreza
2023 grey base automatic Crosstrek

Claims he's fine with them yet drives his wife green manual Mini Cooper every chance he gets.  ;D

Looks like I’ll be driving to Quebec next week: 4,400 km.

Taking the Yukon, because more comfortable than the Crosstrek and more room for stuff. I figure the return trip will cost $2,500 in gas.

I haven’t driven across the country since I was in my early twenties, and that was just Toronto to BC. I swore I’d never do it again.  :P

Is that Crosstrek that uncomfortable?  I'd think using half the gas would be worth it.

If you have time to stop in Ottawa, I'd love to meet up for a beer or two. I'm sure we could wrestle a few others out.

The Crosstrek is pretty comfortable, but the Yukon is definitely more comfortable. I would probably suck it up and take the Crosstrek, but my wife thinks otherwise. Oh, and she just had back surgery in February, so I’m not going to pressure her on vehicle choice.

Honestly, the whole plan is kinda ridiculous. Even with last minute tickets, we could both fly out and rent a car for about what driving there and back will cost. But so far she’s adamant, so looks like that’s what we’ll do. The good news is the original plan was to pull the trailer there and back. $5,000 in gas for that one!  ::)

Would love to meet up if it works out. Would be fun to do a cross country meet and greet with a bunch of folks, but I think we’ll be a bit pressed for time.  :-\

Yes, a thousand times over. I find today's cheap econoboxes are built to a worse standard of NVH, actual seat comfort, and ergonomics. Doesn't help that CVTs in small-displacement four-cylinders drone and groan at highway speeds in the name of fuel efficiency, which negatively contributes to the whole comfort thing overall, too.

That's a long drive, wow. I didn't mind the prairies so much but northern Ontario just seems to go on forever

I think it's something good to do once but that's it. If I had to do it again I'd look at going through the northern US

Yeah, I did an eight hour trip in the Crosstrek last winter and it wasn’t great. Noise is the biggest issue, but I did have the roof box and studded tires. The VH part of NVH is actually really good IMO. I find the engine really smooth and the suspension is the perfect combo of firm and plush. Long travel FTW.

Seats aren’t great, but they’re not terrible. GTI was no better or worse IMO.

Thankfully, long road trips aren’t our use case for the Crosstrek. I’d say it’s 20% errands around town and 80% highway trips of an hour or less. Still zero complaints about the Crosstrek for that.

For bigger trips with the dog and bikes and a bunch of stuff, Yukon is just way more roomy. My wife even wants to put the roof box on the Yukon to carry more stuff to Quebec.  ::)

How many people are in the car?

Is a Golf much quieter than the Crosstrek? It's also in the econobox realm, and I find it to be sufficiently quiet.

Haha, just the two of us! And a dog, but he’s king of the household so needs plenty of space.

Yeah, noise was the first thing we noticed in the Crosstrek. GTI was much quieter for highway cruising.

Can't you take a helicopter? :stick:

Let us know if you make it thru Ottawa, it'll give Tortoise & I an excuse to meet up... especially since we're only 2mins away from each other   Though I am golfing with him on Tuesday.
