Yup. It's tough to give up a pet, especially one that's been around seemingly forever.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Looks like Pennsylvania is a bust. Pay cut, but lower cost of living, I could deal with. Even paying more for benefits likely wouldn't be a deal breaker, but they only offer two weeks vacation, one of which has to be taken at Christmas.

In Canada, employees start with two weeks, then get another week every five years. I think the maximum is five weeks vacation now. Currently I get four weeks off, plus statutory holidays.

It's bizarre that the benefits are so different within the same company.

Yeah, that doesn't sound very good.  Very bizarre of anyone to expect you to lose two weeks' vacation just to come south within the same company!   :shake:

Nothing, not going to ask again.  Last time it was $300 in tests just to say "Yup, he's old"

There's only so much they can do, and we aren't willing to spend a ton of money at this point just to keep him alive.  Really it's for us not for him and that's selfish.  If it is his time, I think we should let him die happy IMO.

Going to give him some hugs and cheese and steak and let him enjoy his remaining time.

Yep, I get that 100%.  Quality of life is what you should be assessing, and it sounds like you are doing that.  It's what I do as well.

Very odd. Normally expat stuff comes at a premium and a decently large one at that.

For secondments I've had, it's been my existing pay and benefits plus per diem or expenses. This would have been a transfer, so I'd get whatever the locals get. It's kind of weird that it's so different.

That is weird.  Why move if there is no incentive?

Very weird.    Now if they were offering a full scale immigrant visa for a 'green card'   it might be a different matter for some people.   Perhaps not for you but a lot of people would go for that.

They may be operating under the belief that everyone is trying to immigrate. I'm fine here actually, but I could be busier.

^^^ A TN 'free trade' visa doesn't lead to a 'green card'   unless you marry an American while down there I guess.   IIRC you said it was just a TN visa thing.

Oh, I know. But a lot of Americans are convinced everyone else is trying to become a USian. If the closest thing to the left they have are Democrats, I'll pass.  ;D

Thats very true, a friend of mine works for a company that is headquartered in Houston. She apparently went down there too many times and she got into trouble with the immigration department. Took a lot of lawyering to get her back over the border even though she only stays maybe a few days a month and is paid by the Canadian branch of the company.
