Strip-searches allowed in Quebec high schools, education minister says
http://www.torontosun.com/2015/02/18/strip-searches-allowed-in-quebec-high-schools-education-minister-says

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/yves-bolduc-says-teen-strip-search-allowed-in-high-schools-1.2960521

The girl had sent a text offering to sell drugs. The text made its way to the principal. The female principal and another female staff member conducted the search and seem to have followed the guidelines:

The board goes on to cite guidelines that must be followed in such searches:

- A screen or cover is used to protect students if they are asked to remove their clothes.
- Only clothes are searched and not the student's body.
- Two people must be present during the search, preferably both staff members of the same gender.
- There must be no direct contact with the student.

I'm uneasy with strip searches, but I don't see this particular incident as having gone overboard, especially since we don't know the history of this particular girl.

And never read Sun papers.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

So a student only needs to tape the drugs to their body?

and why not just have the girl sit in an office with admin until the cops arrive and do their thing?

If it's taped to her body, they're going to notice. My understanding is this clause is to prevent cavity searches.

I'm unsure why the police aren't involved. I'm also unsure if they're required. This is a pretty dicey situation regardless.

Strip searches should NOT be performed by school officials, that's insane.  I don't care what she did or pretended to do, those school officials need to be fired.

Not going to happen because they were following provincial policy.

i think the student needs to be expelled and put in jail for possessing and intent to distribute.

Talked to a contact in Edmonton. Relocating may be in the cards long term. Short term he put me in touch with a contact in Reading, Pennsylvania. That may happen. Not Tampa, but it's a start, I guess. :-\

He said he'd hire me in an instant, but workload is too tenuous at the moment. He gave me a very good recommendation to the guy in Pennsylvania for a term position.

Long term Edmonton could be in the cards

Don't know what you do...but any of my friends involved in anything that involves maintenance are not worried, any of them involved in new projects are sweating...heavily.

Projects. The last number of years leaning more to electric transmission and distribution, but I've also done quite a bit of work on power production.

That kind of project can be delayed, but has to be done eventually. Lots of really old and really overtaxed T & D infrastructure out there.

Not going to happen because they were following provincial policy.

I know, and apparently schools are exempt from the Charter of Rights' unreasonable search requirements.

That's bizarre, to me.

The biggest issue with Ontario is working on OPG or Hydro projects. I've worked a bit with them, and they are pretty dysfunctional. I don't think I've seen worse management-labour relations than at OPG. It boggled my mind.

They sure as hell need a lot of infrastructure upgrades, at least based on the last bit of stuff I saw. 50 year old porcupine yard breakers that couldn't be exercised because nobody knew if they'd work or not. So you can't test your protection equipment because it might not work? W.T.F.
