Good to hear!  Indy is the way to go.

FWIW, the oils with lowest NOACK are Amsoil and Pennzoil Platinum Ultra. The standard is 15 percent IIRC. GDI is recommended sub 10 percent. The above mentioned oils are 6.5 percent.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Oh good...I have no idea what (or why) NOACK is...but you know your oil, so if I can find Pennzoil PU on sale at Cdn Tire, I should make it my oil of choice for me truck.  I normally get whatever Costco has...or Mobil1..or QS...whatever's on sale. (synthetic of course)

Once your warranty is up, indie is the only way to go, or if you’re in Ottawa, the CT on Carling.  Service manager there is a star and runs a tight shop.

No a huge concern unless you have DI or a particularly hot running engine.

This is the simple version:

NOACK is how much oil evaporates at high temperature.

Why does this matter in DI engines?  Typically there's no fuel hitting the inlet side of the valves, since the fuel gets atomized directly into the combustion chamber. So the valve doesn't benefit from the cooling properties (and cleaning detergents) of the fuel. So that side of the valve is hot.  And any oil touching the inlet side of the valve "cooks" and has the potential to produce carbon buildup.  Which is the case for many DI engines.

A quality synthetic lessens this.  Particularly so with a low NOACK number.

Hope this helps.

Quaker State have recently improved their 5w30 synthetic. It is now at #4, just behind Amsoils. I've used it and the previous ver. for a couple of years now. The engine purrs  :)

Technically, it's #3.  First one on the list doesn't count IMO.

True. It is also my suspicion that it shouldn't.

Another thing that works well IMO in particular with direct injectors.

I prefer Amsoil PI or BG44k

dropped my car off at the dealer on Sunday night (so they can look it whenever)...i was finding the shifter was "tight" moving out of P, D, etc and didn't register what gear it was in on the dash...turns out it needed a new Neutral Safety Switch...$215 installed taxes in, but covered under my extended warranty so it cost me $0...interestingly, i've only put on 800 kms in the past year.

I'd love to know how much your extended warranty has paid out on both your Kia's, as well as money you've had to put into repairs/maintenance.

i haven't used it on the Sorento yet as the factory warranty just expired a few months ago...the extra warranty was about $3500.

for the Rio5, i have had 3 repairs done under the extended warranty...the extra warranty was about $2200.

- back up camera replaced (about $650)
- heater/AC core replaced (about $1700)
- neutral safety switch ($215)

i have about 10 months of (extended) warranty left on the Rio5.

So the warranty paid for itself then.  Money well spent.

yea, i had no idea what Kias were like, plus i planned on keeping the car for 10 years, so i figured i'd get the warranty just in case...i've never had an AC system last longer than 8 years, so i figured i'd at least get that done...i didn't buy it to make out like a bandit, it's just peace of mind and simplicity for payment...it's like an extra $25/month, and then if i need a repair down the road, it's already paid for...also, if the AC unit went and the car was 8 years old, i can't see myself spending that kind of money to repair/replace it...and i can't drive in the hot summer months without AC anymore, so it would likely mean i'd have to dump the car and buy something different (2 years earlier than i planned on, which means 2 more years of car payments i didn't want).

the extra warranty was quite a bit more money on the Sorento, but it's also turbocharged and has AWD so i figured there could be more to go wrong there (and that stuff gets expensive)...it's actually been quite reliable (no issues), but we'll see how it goes over the next 4.5 years under the extended warranty.

Nothing wrong with getting an extended warranty if you plan on driving it for a long time.  We extended the warranty on our Rav4 out to 7 years because it wasn't too much money and it's our first experience with a Hybrid.  I know we likely won't get the value out of that warranty but we also like having the piece of mind that we will be covered under warranty for pretty much any repairs until we are ready to trade it for something else.

I estimate about $2200 in extended warranty work on my Mazda 3 as well. Front wheel bearings, clutch master cylinder, and front seat assembly. Nothing wrong since warranty ended 34,000km ago, knock on wood.

yea, i didn't buy it thinking i'll need it (although, i wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first Kia vehicle), i just wanted piece of mind and considered it as prepaying for some repairs (budgeted into payments) so there's no surprises down the road...if i was only going to keep the vehicle for 4-5 years, of course i wouldn't bother with it.
