Sorry KD, but I won this one  ;D

Confirmed.

Wait, you said GLE!  Looks like nobody won.

Sweet! Another diesel owner!  Now you too get to worry that your wife will fill it with gasoline and take out your HPFP.

That's a nice ride.  And from what I remember about Sailor's thread is that mechanically it was pretty solid.  Just a series of sensor issues.

That's a great looking Benz!

Yeah, my ML Bluetec had virtually no mechanical failures in 6 years and about 145,000kms (just the rear main seal that went at just over 100K....fairly common I"m told)
It was really more of a constant parade of failed sensors, control modules and wiring harnesses with mine. Things like emissions control, blind spot system, parking aids, ABS,Stability Control, Traction control, Ad Blue system etc etc

I'm very much looking forward to proving wrong the excessive fear of FGC ownership on this forum.

Heres hoping

It'll be interesting. He bought ALL the electronic/drivers aids options. So lots on this bad boy just waiting to break.  :rofl2:

Looks great, and I'm sure it drives just as good

Our mechanic said with the collision (and apparently blind spot) stuff a Mercedes issue is the radar sensors fill with water and fry. And in the interlinked German electical way it takes out stuff you actually need:

The most common problem is that the sensor can get damaged by water. If that’s the case, the blind spot assist sensors behind the rear bumper will need to be replaced. When the blind spot radar sensors in the rear bumper fail, the turn signals may also stop working. If you are getting a blind spot inoperative on your dashboard every time it rains, remove the radar sensors on the rear bumper and ensure they are properly sealed. Water may be entering the radar sensors triggering the message on the dashboard.
In some cases when the blind spot assist stops working the wiper blades may stop functioning as well. If you are experiencing these two problems check the fuse for the wiper blades.

Instead of getting bent over at the MB dealer the parts are actually not that bad on ebay:

Unfortunately he suffers from Parkinson's disease which is part of the unfortunate story of why he is giving up his car.  :(

IT meant a lot to him that it stayed in the family. He loved that ML with all his heart.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that.  That sucks.  But silver lining he'll still get to ride in his old ML from time to time.

Nice!  I took over my step-father's Lincoln LS-V8 when he wasn't able to drive anymore.  Took him for a nice long drive every weekend for as long as he was able.  He loved his cars!

I was sorta on the right track. I guessed Porsche as I thought you'd be taking over one of your parents vehicles...and they had Cayennes, didn't they?

Congrats on your truck..

I have a desire to own a diesel German SUV. Hard to choose between the ML, Touareg and X5. Gotta love all of that diesel torque. A bit eye watering at the over $90k sticker! Yours must be loaded up pretty good.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of consumption are you getting out of it?
