the negative of the crappy city is that the houses generally will not go up in value i've found.

though i sometimes miss my condo life, just getting home, minimal bills, no lawn to worry about, etc.... overall, i love having my yard... i'll sit in my back corner of my lot where i have a little pond and read a book listening to the waterfall and feeding my fishes while sipping a drink... hard to beat it.

plus, i hated condo/common element fees.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Plus having your own house, you don't have to deal with the condo association and its policies.  :)

Or high density of neighbors...

I can't see me EVER living in a big city.........and I mean EVER!  It's just not for me and I enjoy my space and privacy too much!  I do envy the copious amounts of travel deals though that are available from the major centers like Montreal, Toronto, etc.   :(

I feel energized in big city downtown. So much going on...awesome restaurants, culture, bars, shopping (men's clothes, watches), great hotels, ball parks, rinks, galleries, cool architecture and the very best of all...commerce.

I completely agree with ALL of that!  I absolutely LOVE visiting major cities enjoying awesome entertainment, eating at fantastic restaurants, experiencing the various cultures, etc.  I just can't picture myself ever living in a congested area where my neighbour is a matter of feet from me.  I can totally see the appeal though, but I'm more of a country boy.    :)

What is this? Reveal where you live thread?

I live in 2-storey 1400 sq house (attached garage) in SE Edmonton within walking distance to to Superstore and transit station
5mins from Anthony Henday and Whitemud drive (so basically I can get anywhere in Edmonton in less than an hour I think)
I drive 15 mins to work. Theres also a bike trail somewhere close-by.

All for around $360k which I bought last November. If I live in SW Edmonton, the cost would probably be $100k+ more.

agreed, but living in a big city (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal) and enjoying this daily requires a really good income!   In high school i'd drive to Toronto almost every other weekend to bask in the atmosphere but once i actually lived there (it was only 3 months) on a co-op in college, I couldn't wait to get out!

Of course I was there doing a free co-op with no car and basically only enough cash to feed myself and window shop.  That got old really fast.

Drove to Toronto General on University and back twice today. Once during Rush Hour and I just got back from the second trip. 45 minutes into Toronto the first trip and 35 on the second. Honestly I don't understand why people complain about that drive, adjust your schedule accordingly. And this is with construction on the Gardner and York Street. Unless someone has been trampling the grass for me every time I head Down Town its an easy drive.

^ Mondays are always MUCH lighter than the rest of the week during the summer. Try getting in or out of the city on a Thursday or Friday at around 5pm. I do a similar run daily and you're right, sometimes (on a really good day) you can get away with 40-45 minutes, but doing it day after day really starts to get annoying. And then there's those days where accidents start happening and your day is ruint....Last Friday I left work at 5:30, got home at 8pm; multiple accidents and complete girdlock in a couple spots.

my commute's about 25km each way.    drop my SO off in downtown and i get out to get to my work.

leave early in the morning so i don't hardly ever get stuck in traffic, which I LOVE.  takes about 30 minutes each way going to and fro.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D
