I only watched the pilot but it seemed like a typical network drama to me. Dumb subplots (the whole dubstep recording thing), stupid exposition (we know Maggie Q is in the FBI because when she left the bar she had to get her FBI jacket out of the trunk), etc. Supposedly Kiefer Sutherland's reaction to the script was that he could see this taking over the next 10 years of his life but it's tough to foresee what they can do with this show after a season or two. It could very well suffer from what happened to Prison Break, where its success meant that it had to continue so they had to break out of prison multiple times. That's a show that should have been left at a single season, maybe two.
Did anyone else watch the first episode of Westworld? HBO is betting big since its drama lineup is not very strong right now (GoT going away, Leftovers only has one season left, Vinyl is cancelled) and they need a big hit post-GoT. The pilot was fantastic and it's clear they spent a LOT of money on it. I never saw the original movie but it sounds like the show is deviating from it quite drastically.
