3000rpm at 120km/h?  My Elantra turns 2700rpm at the same speed, and I thought that was high...

3K at 120 is really not that high. My GTI turns 2900 at 120.

Now I test drove a used Astra 5 speed the other day. It turned 3000 at 100!!!  :o Now that's high. I kept reaching for an extra gear that wasn't there.  The engine had a thrumming quality to it that coupled with the high revs there is no way I could live with despite the fact that wind and tire noise were not unreasonable.

My wife's Fit is higher still (although that's a 5-speed).

I'm not going to start a new thread, because I agree with pretty much everything Jaeger has written already :fall: ;D.
.....

Oh OK...I'll read it then.   ;D

I saw a shot of the 5 door illustration the other day...that might be interesting, but I think a little too small for what I'm after.

Truth About Cars review on the Veloster sure had some bad points to bring up.
 quote
I knew the Veloster would have the same 138-horsepower direct-injected 1.6-liter engine as the new Accent, but saddled with more curb weight (2,430-2,588 vs. 2,584-2,740 pounds). I also knew that Hyundai had yet to master the art of suspension tuning.

Hyundai execs are apologetic about the Veloster’s performance, admitting that while the original concept was “eco-sport” the end result is more eco and less sport.
Those looking for a punch in the lower back will be disappointed, though, as there’s little torque in play.

 (Manuel transmission)
(though first and second remain too far apart while fifth and sixth remain too close together).
 (Automatic transmission)
But on the road the theoretical advantages of a dual-clutch transmission fail to materialize.
Worse, acceleration feels considerably more sluggish with the DCT .
the DCT car felt heavier and less willing to change directions.
So, the Veloster isn’t as fun as it looks . End quote

I'll be driving one for a week in November or December (can't remember).  I'm looking forward to it for sure.  I'm 6'1" so judging by these comments I should fit no problem

Ok....so that is no different than ANY car in the segment.  Fiesta, Cruze, Fit , Rabbit, Yaris, Versa,  etc..  Most of them struggle to get out of their own way....

In front, anyway.   6'1" isn't going to fit in back unless you have a super-short torso.

Does anyone know if a bike rack can be fitted to one? I can forsee some difficulties with the centrally mounted exhaust.

^^Yea.  But I really don't understand why the Veloster should be faulted for having "un-Lotus like" steering in that review.

interesting review
quote

during this process of driving the Veloster hard through the twisties that all interaction ceases. The steering wheel's vast dead spot on the straight-ahead, its strange desire to avoid self-centering, the sticky sensation one only finds in a Hyundai steering rack, and the Veloster's inability to transfer messages from the wheels to the helm leave the driver with little confidence. The stiff chassis leads one to believe the entry speed is safe, but the wheel angle is unknown and probably in need of correction. What kind of correction? The steering isn't talking, so who knows?

This is the Veloster's one key fault, one of its only faults, in fact. The problem isn't misspelled telegrams coming back through the rack, it's that the lines of communication are broken. Here the Veloster is one of us, a taker; not a giver. You will give effort and intelligence. In return, the Veloster fails by offering no real-time reconnaissance

bikenut, you crack me up.

Here's a recent review comparing the Veloster with the VW Beetle and Mini Coupe:

They say Ve lost er ;D
I say Velo star  ::)
What do you say  ???

Hyundai can pronounce it any way they want and it makes sense, but have to admit my way sounds way better to me. Heck who wants to be Lost? I'd much rather be a Star.

People choosing it, like Mrs. Saffy, can't be faulted for their wisdom (husbands excluded in the case of the Mrs Saff). Nice package and pricing and pretty good looks too, but that name.....I dunno. ;)
