I think you all must be smoking something funny. There's not a vehicle on this planet that's equipped well enough to make me feel good while sitting in a traffic jam. It's one of the most ridiculous discussions I've ever seen on this form, and that's saying something. A sad commentary on our society.......really.

 ::) ::) ::) ::)

Of course no one LIKES being stuck in traffic or feels good about it. Duh.  ::) But at some point it's inevitable.  What we're saying is we'd rather have our time wasted in a traffic jam ensconced in luxury rather some POS econo-wreck with no A/C and no stereo.  At least it makes it tolerable.

Or is this too heady a concept for you to grasp?
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Alright, I'll see if I can grasp the concept. Traffic jam is stressful and somewhat intolerable. I'll trade in my econobox plus a few g's or tens of g's for a Lexus, or an MB S500, or perhaps a full-size, full-load pick-up. I'll increase my comfort level to a point at which my sensibilities are numbed to the futility of the traffic situation. If my fellow commuters do the same thing, we can increase the average footprint of each vehicle, thereby increasing the overall size of the traffic congestion area.

Ok, now I see it. Thanks for explaining it so convincingly, and excuse me for being so obtuse, and slow to recognize such a "heady" concept.

On this rare occasion I agree with Artic.   If you absolutely have to commute in traffic ( as per TO or supposedly Vancouver) then do it in a comfortable car.
I'd pick a M-B S class myself but whatever rings your bell.

That because you u have never been in a LTZ PICKUP, , or a Tundra Limmited, it beats the hell of sitting in a Bimmer in traffic LOL

Maybe so. But I did not mention a Bimmer.  I suggested a full sized autobahn stormer with the comfy heated and cooled seats and all the goodies.  The car that your truck maker got the ideas from

Don't know man, something that expensive stuck in traffic, hell a smooth driving Sentra could provide that for half the price.

and one could sell their detached house and buy a half a house (semi).  It does the same thing or does it.  ???

What's so great about a Sentra stuck in traffic: sh*t manual seats, super sh*t "radio", sh*t HVAC, just the usual sh*t found in econbox cars.  Why such a hate on for ppl that can throw $700. @ month down on a vehicle.  ???  Sitting in that same traffic, in larger power seats with numerous heat and cooling settings, listening to a 14 speaker Mark Levinson system in a sound deadened environment with perfect HVAC.  Who would rather be in a Sentra other than yourself.   :bang:

 :fiver: Well said AS

Euh, yeah, I'd rather be stuck in traffic in a Lexus or a M-B than an econocar any day of the week (sorry airbalancer, never tried a truck)

Euh, no, it's not the same thing as being stuck in a Sentra, much as I was fond of my old Sentra.

Depends what Bimmer.

The E350 is a nice car.

You really need to get on Hwy 1 in Vancouver around 4:00 pm to understand what traffic is.

"Go away you socialist enviro nutbag hobo."

The statement is about as articulate as the point is intelligent.

When simple math, science and accounting are too much for the evangelistically  ignorant to absorb, they hurl terms like "socialist", "terrorist" and lately "scientist" and then retreat to their bunkers in the name of freedom.

Cheers,

I like the exterior styling of these. They look good in dark colors especially. The dash, not so much. The current Buick Lacrosse targeted these when it was introduced and I think it is a much more impressive car overall at what is usually a lot less money to buy. The interior design in particular is a nice step up from this.
Since October 2015 the Junior PM has been in office.  Record mega-Billion deficits as he p*sses away our future.  An economy gutted. Stinky POTHEADS rejoice. We are going down the drain.

Speaking from experience, it does not make much sense to buy Japanese luxury sedans new. The cars are well made a very reliable; the always rate at the top of any reliability rating I have ever seen and personal experience has shown these ratings valid. A low km 2009 in these parts can be had for $29,000 and cash can do even better.

Even new, the Buick has only about $2000 over the Lexus. It would not be a difficult choice, for me anyway. But to each his own.

I just returned, once again, from the semi-annual 830 mile day trip to Myrtle Beach,SC from here in NY...in the '11 Sonata base model with 6 spd stick...
About the same mpg...40...this time I checked it vis a vis gas used...Yep..it's 40 mpg...at between 70 and 75 MPH..a little traffic congestion here and there...three passengers and a trunk load, A/C on all the way...and sitting in traffic is a pleasure listening to the quality sound on the satellite radio...No sore butt after 14 hours in the seat, this from a 66 year old lover of all things automotive and driving...Love the guys on this forum..what a variety!  Jack

dragonfly, we were discussing Lexus and luxury here, not sonata. Looks like you did not want to add anything new to this thread, except praising (again) your beloved hyundai rig.

My wife's grandmother (my wife is 45...) has one of these. She does not drive it anymore. Which means sometimes I get to drive it.

It is undoubtedly the most boring, soporific, coma-inducing car I ever drove. Really. It's that unconnected.

Sitting in a full bathtub surrounded by candles listening to Enya feels like being in a Pantera concert compared to this.

This car is ideal for 98-year-olds who should not be exposed to loud noises and sudden movements.
