I have always had a soft spot for Corvettes. There was some periods when they were pretty diluted...

My favourites were the 63 to 67 series. I almost bought a 67 with a 427, but I prefer the 327. Then there is the 1970 with the LT1. But what turns me off with any of them is the Mattel plastic interiors and the cheapness under the skin.

As for the diluted series...early 70 and up to the mid 80s, as far as I'm concerned. 72 was the last year with chrome bumpers; 74 they went to the soft rounded tail end...butt ugly!

As much as I love Porsches, their newer products are almost too German.

Well I hated the tacky Japanese interior of the 997. It was too CEO-like, designed for a three-piece suit wearing squid who knows nothing about the marque. The 993 that I chose felt so much better to drive and it wasn't a matter of $$$.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!
A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!
A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

Unfortunate though it is, I think you'll find that is the vast majority of 911 drivers.  That's the benefit and downfall of the reliability of a Porsche, there isn't any other car that offers the same level of performance and reliability at those price ranges, therefore people who are risk averse buy them.  Middle aged fat businessmen mainly.  Ferrari's, Lotuses etc. are too hard to get into and not reliable enough.

I know a couple of people who drive 911's daily, and when you're just commuting or stuck in traffic, it behaves exactly the same as any other bland repmobile, which to them is an advantage.

That's why I prefer the 993/964 and before, they are much rawer cars.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

It would be interesting to meet a bunch of late model Vette enthusiasts.  I know with PCA, we had a real mix of folks from guys that bought older models and rebuilt them, maintained them, and did everything themselves to the truly wealthy that had their cars trailed in 40' enclosed units and arrived there in a 7-series or S-Class.  However, we saw few guys that bought the cars for the badge.  Most everyone that came out really loved the cars and the engineering that went into them.  Posers left quickly after being chided for being as such.

Middle aged fat businessmen mainly.

It is soooo funny how you get treated at upper end car dealerships based on how you are dressed. I stopped in at the Porsche dealer in Montreal (while down for the motorcycle show) wearing Levis jeans, a Wal-Mart shirt and a MEC fleece jacket. They just ignored me; almost shoved a broom into my hand. If they only knew what I was capable of buying.  Both used 993s that they had were overpriced; either that or I got one hell of a smoking deal on mine.

:iagree:  Many seem to "ignore" women too............a friend who earns a nice fat 6 figure income was looking for a Summer sporty toy to drive ,alongside her Lexus.Popped into a Merc dealership in Kitchener after a business trip looking to buy a little convertible..dressed in a nice business suit..she was IGNORED...(maybe if she was a 20 something supermodel dressed in Hcrv "casual" attire she woulda got SOME attention.....???)...anyhow so walked out, popped into a nearby BMW dealership and left with a Red Z4 convertible, sold, signed and paid for..................................

I better dust orff my HAIRMAN'eh! suit before scoping out the Astons...... :rofl2:
