Gauges in the centre of the dash instead of in front of the driver.

Umm, perhaps I'm not the only driver in the family, and other drivers can't drive a MT?

My dealbreaker for getting married was not allowing me to have a manual car. :) Luckily I did one better, found a wife who preferred driving stick. A coworker of mine's wife prefers driving stick as well. Score.

This is a good one; applicable to me too.

Lack of a manual transmission would be my only deal breaker, but of course that didn't prevent me from buying the Suburban. It all depends on the vehicle, really.

Same with A/C, cruise control, power mirrors/windows, etc. All those were must-haves on the Suburban, but if I ever buy an Elise/Miata/Boxster, I'd much rather not have them.

Gotta strike an emotional cord.
Unique, not look like everything else on the road.
Road feel.
Manual transmission.
Good back support on seats.
Comfy stuff - heated seats, A/C, heated mirrors, cruise control, remote entry...
No red/orange gauge lighting--prefer blue, white, or green.

You need a/c on an Elise, it can get very hot in there with the engine behind you.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

The roof was on 99.9% of the time.  I unbolted it a few times but you couldn't store it in the car, so you had to be very sure indeed that the weather was going to hold.  I actually much preferred it with the roof on.

Walking up Robson today I saw people struggling to get stuff in to the back of a CRV with the side-hinged rear gate. Back hatch has to open up with bonus point if the glass can open independently.

Not many do that save for the Escape and Tribute.

I didn't realize until yesterday how important a telescopic steering wheel is for me these days.  The Jukes doesn't do this and is way to far forward for me

I think he meant the rear hatch/gate had to swing up, like most do.  If its the CRV/RAV4 style swinging gate, then it needs the glass to lift up separately.  That is the way I read it anyway.

My Pathfinder had the glass swing up, it was nice but I found I did not use that feature as much as I thought I would.

It was torn down and new even more expensive condos put up  ;) Don't worry, though, the White Tower still has a seat roped off and waiting for your return

Bonus point for independent glass operation regardless of hinge location  :)
