I was comparing some US and Canadian specs and I noticed that in the US sunroofs are often a stand alone option whereas in Canada they always seem to be part of a higher trim package (Subaru Outbacks in this case). Which would you prefer?

I put sunroof in my truck once
Also depends on the type
Spoiler type that slides above roof are noise
If they slide into the roof they are the quiet ones when opened

My last 5 of my last 6 cars have had them as standard ( in the trim level I bought) and I never open them or even open the sun shield.

I prefer them, but whether a vehicle had or didn't have it would never be a deal breaker.

Last 3 cars have had a sunroof - i use the tilt open feature occasionally, but never bother opening them fully.
I do like the large panoramic roofs like on the Ford Edge though

Pretty much a deal breaker in my daily driver. I use mine pretty as much as I can, fully open in the city or open/vented (depending on my speed) on the highway.

I used to be against sunroof's.  The whole, extra cost/extra weight was an issue with me.  Then I got one in my RX-8 and loved it.  Now I am not sure I would get a car without one.

Same here.  I think I've only owned vehicle without a sunroof.  I use mine every chance I get when I'm not driving my S2000.

I had sunroof before and never used it, except for few times just for the sake of it. I would not want to have it standard and have to pay for it. I would like to see it as a stand-alone option instead of bundled with other features I might want.

All of my last 12 vehicles have had a "moonroof" (that's what Ford calls them).  I use mine all the time.....I also find that they brighten up the interior open or closed.  It would be a "deal breaker" for me if it were not available as a stand alone option or as part of a package/standard equipment.

My new Edge has a pana roof and I'm sure I will really enjoy having it when the weather gets nicer.

Until I got my Forester, I could have cared less, even thought it was a bit of a negative but got at with the Touring package as it had stuff I really wanted.

Now, 2 1/2 years later, I love it.  The sun shade is hardly ever closed, especially in winter as it seems to help heat the cabin.  I like the bright, airy feel you get with it.  And the ventilation when you need it is nice.

But would it be a deal breaker for me?  Not sure, as I look at the whole package, its its just one factor in the mix.  If it was your typical tiny sun/moon roof, then I doubt I would bother but the big one on the Forester is real nice.

Now that I think about it, my next vehicle better have one - my M-in-law thinks the psychadelic tri-colour foam that gets sprayed on your car in a touchless wash is the most amazing thing she's ever seen...she gets pissed if you go through a wash and don't pick her up...
Imagine watching it go overhead in a big pana roof like that... whoa...

I love the huge sunroof in the Forester.  My Civic, and RSX had them too.  I don't think I've used the shade since last fall.  It does help warm the inside of the car up in the winter if the sun can get it.  I find it does brighten up the inside of the car, especially since I prefer the look of darker interiors.

Isn't the sunroof in the GTI on the noisy side, a lot of wind turbulance comes in.

I have the large panaramic roof in the SRX. I've probably only driven with it open 2-3 times in the 3 years I've owned the car. I do use it fairly often in the summer to let heat escape when I first get in the car. Opening it for about 10-20 seconds lets a lot of the heat out and allows the AC to get the cabin cooled much faster.
