and there will be no kissing.
This looks like the thin edge of the wedge. And what a gouge dropping to 1/8 of the status quo. So much for Netflix.

Anybody that has been following this knew it was coming so that isn't a shock. What bugs me is how ridiculously low the minimum cap was set, only 25GB. Or if you are in Quebec it is 60GB because there is more competition there. How is that for fare?

Saying that, I don't think it is the end of the world except for those that have very high bandwidth usage.

From the article, for $38 you get 65GB or $42 you get 105GB, that is still cheaper than Rogers.

Hopefully people keep writing their gov't and signing the petition.

There was no way to stop UBB because most things we buy are like this. Its just the low caps and price/GB that is horrible.

If I can't use whatever bandwidth I need for comfy living, I'll cancel it altogether and use wi-fi on occasion. Back to the stone age we go, hold the torch up high, mr. PM.

Canada has always suffered from this issue of too few people spread over a ridiculously large area. The physical realities of wired copper connections really do mean you need regulation (lesser of two evils here).

IMHO until the technology to do everything wirelessly at high speeds and low latency is here (could be a long ass time) they should just turn the whole cable + phone network into a nationalized service, like water or electricity.

Internet is so prevalent today that it should be considered an essential service. Bell/Rogers are abusing their monopolistic position, though. And this leads to some really really wacky outcomes. How else could you explain that my neighbourhood in Markham, suburban but hardly in the boonies (around Major Mac), has absolutely ZERO access to Bell landline service? We have Rogers or nothing. They could theoretically raise my rates to $300/mo and I have zero way around it. Anticompetitive much?
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I've heard about this and read that it happens because the landowner strikes up a deal with Rogers to be the only supplier for services in that neighborhood when it is being built. Sounds shady to me though.

I don't see this effecting anything at all. For an extra $5 or $6 you can get 40 extra gigs and probably end with more data for less money then I get with Rogers.
Anyone who uses 60 gigs a month probably needs to leave their house more often.

Anyone with Tech Savey who wants to pay my bill instead give me a call. I'll gladly take one of these new smaller company packages in exchange.

The big deal is the cap is now 25gig which is anti competitive towards innovation like Netflix and cloud computing.

We should ALL turn off cable and internet services, leaving only basic phone service.  After a few months of no revenue, these fackers will get the message.
