Either people are not concerned or don't care about these ratings, or maybe they are non believers?

I thought for sure the two BMW 335s being ranked at the very bottom might have stirred some emotions. Same goes for the BMW 135 also ranked as poor.

Not that I'm picking on BMW because their are a lot of others at the bottom too - including the Dodge Journey that everyone wants to love. Even the Chryco Minivans, including the Routan are all at the bottom.

Another surprise is the Toyota FJ Cruiser being at the top of the 26 Midsize SUVs.

Well the Fit is #2 on the small cars which I'd say matches our experience.  Nothing at all has gone wrong, just two minor recalls in 4 years.
My GTI is either between  4 and 16 on the sporty cars or somewhere in the middle also on either small cars or family cars.   Only one thing has gone wrong in 2.75 years ( The DSG doesn't count as mine was fine and was replaced under a recall anyway)

Sooooo out of the "bad " cars I suppose I might have bought a 335, an E class or an A6 had there been no recession but I would not have even looked at the others so I guess the list is not much of a concern.

CR's predicted reliability ratings typically never give high marks for BMW (at least from what I've seen), so I really don't think it's much of a surprise.  Audi and MB typically never fair too well either.

Personally, I really never got the whole "predicted reliability" thing.

I must say I was surprised that the little Bimmers did so badly. Other than that, no big surprises there.

They had some issues in the past with the turbos and boiling oil....wonder if that's the reason for the low reliability score?
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

If I recall correctly, the non-turbo Bimmers do do very well for a European brand.  The 328i is very solid, and even the technology-laden-and-highly-tuned M3 is more reliable than the _35i.  It's just the _35i which has had issues.

I keep up with CR so I'm not too surprised by the results except for the Mustang V6 coming ahead of the Civic Si and the E-Class V6 coming in second in its class. Both of those are big changes from not too long ago.

Ford really did very well, and they're to be commended for that.  Several podium finishes.  Come a long way since the days of "Found On Road Daily."

I'm a little surprised at the Cooper's poor ranking. It certainly doesn't fit with our experience so far (fingers crossed)

Now the SRX......unfortunately accurate  ::)

I've heard a lot of anecdotal accounts that match the Cooper's ranking.  Hopefully yours will continue to be reliable over time.

Yeah, unfortunately true.  I've got two close friends that have an SRX and another one with an Escalade, and all of them are just dying to get rid of them due to continuous issues.  I am not sure how bad your issues have been but my two SRX buddies haven't had that much of a break in between shop times.  It's a shame.

I guess that brings up another eyebrow raiser, the Navigator coming in just behind the RX and MDX in the luxury SUV class. They used to be pretty poor reliability wise.

I see Mitsu Outlander continues to show up like a thorn in CR's reliability rankings since its launch in 2007. It certainly mirrors my personal experience.
The interesting thing is that IIRC some one posted here not too long ago the CR's manufacturer reliability ranking and while Mitsu was ranked high (#3 IIRC), the Outlander was the least reliable model and the Galant the most reliable model. However, I don't see the Galant at the top of its class.
Does anyone know how the Galant is ranked?

Where is the Forester and RAV4 I4? Is there something wrong with Toyota's newish I4s (2.5L and 2.7L)? I also see the Venza V6 at the top and the Venza I4 at the bottom.

Mine hasn't been really awful...more annoying than anything  (wheel bearings, wiper motor, suspension parts, trim pieces, too frequent brake work, AC leaks,TPMS sensors  etc) Up until last Oct it was mostly warranty stuff. Now the passenger overhead assist handle pulled off in my hand and the driver's side view mirror stopped working  ::)  The real pain is having to keep taking it into Bretts ( not the best service experience I've ever had by a long shot )

But they've been building it so long with little in the way of changes, so maybe they have the bugs worked out??

You obviously live in the SJ or surrounding area then if you are taking it to Bretts.  That's where I am as well and where my buddies take their SRXs and Escalade......none of them have too many nice words to say about Bretts.
