RE Oppo: I felt the same way about the up conversion, my other player is a PS3 and the Oppo wasn't nearly 2x price better. I think only the most discriminating viewers could see or care about the differences or you need to be at 100" or larger sitting at THX distances.

But I also use my Oppo for SACD and streaming music from my computer since its one of the few players (or was) than can stream 96khz files, these features made it worth the extra money to me.

Enjoy the system, nothing better than watching movies or listening to music at home.

On the upconversion..I have not seen the Oppo yet but I refuse to watch DVDs on my PS3. The picture quality is notably softer. I love my PS3 and watch BluRay and Neflix on it very happily but DVD just looks weak to me. Even my wife who would be happy to watch SD tv on a 21 inch screen sees a difference in the way my Toshibs HD DVD player upconverts DVDs and the PS3 on my 92 inch screen.

We have a 23" flat screen 1080 TV, and it seems huge to me.  It's only the second TV we've owned, and the other was 19".

Since 1975 we've had  1* 12", 3* 19" ( 2 were stolen), 1* 27"  all crt,   and now 1*26" lcd and 1 * 46" lcd.

Yeah, my 52" is far too smal for my 13' seating distance.

My suggestion. Go to the store, find the size you want. Then buy 1 size lower.

If you have a normal sized room the chances of getting a an LCD/Plasma TV that's "too big" is pretty low. The most common size is a 50. Yeah you can get 60 or above but theyr are pretty pricy. I sit 11 feet from a 92  inch screen and its not even close to "too big" I would have gone to 102 or even 110 if I could have fit it.

The first week or so when you go from say a 32 to a 50 it seems huge. Then after a while you relaize its really not.

Amen.

When I bought my 50" plasma a couple years ago, the sales guy I was dealing with insisted that I need no more than a 42" screen (i sit about 10-12' from the screen).
If I were to buy again, it would be no smaller than a 60" screen - all the better to go with my existing house-shaking audio system.  :D

Any week now I'll have a dedicated room in the basement for me, my books and my TV + its sound system.  6" of sound stuff in the ceiling and  a few inches in the interior walls.

My TV is a 46" and I have a suspicion I'll want a bigger one in the new room
