I voted for "None of the above". The only time I ever use my cell phone while in the car is when I'm stuck in traffic or stopped at a red light, and even then, I only do that maybe once a month.

I am guilty of playing around with the navigation system though, but mostly when travelling out of town.

I do NONE of those things, ever.  I don't own a cell phone or a BlackBerry, so these can never tempt me.

About the worst thing I do is change the CD in my Miata, on the rare occasions that I'm actually playing CDs in there.

And of course there's no stereo in the Cobra to distract me.  Just sweet mechanical music from the sidepipes... :-)

That distracts everyone else!!  (In a good way)

I used to be bad for these things.  Facebooking through my BB, etc  :-[.  But I have corrected my behaviour and no longer touch the phone (except BT calls).

I voted none of the above, but only because simultaneous eating a cheesburger, smoking, drinking coffee while shifting and steering with my knee wasn't on the list. ;)

My BB is paired with the Bluetooth on the car, but occasionally my wife will call on my personal mobile phone (not paired with Bluetooth).

I also have perfected driving "knee driving" while on cruise, talking on the phone and eating.  :)

On rare occasions I will press answer + speakerphone on my 2nd phone. Only when muddling along at 20km/h though. Both of my cars refuse to Bluetooth to more than one phone at a time and I carry two with me. Irritating. But usually people will call the other one if I don't answer (at which point I can just press the steering wheel button and its all good).
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

Yeah, I get maybe three calls a month, and maybe one of those is in my car.  Most people text, and those who know me know that I don't text back if I'm driving.  Therefore, most messages are of an informative nature:  "I'm here - meet you inside!" or  "Call me when you get to the trailhead - I'm lost."  You're SOL if you text me a question while I'm driving and expect an immediate answer.

My cell phone is work-issued ---> only through hands-free.  Short, simple calls only.  Otherwise, pull over if I have to 'think' during the call.

I don't know how to 'text'.

Does "Talking on the cell phone" include or exclude cell use through bluetooth?  If it excludes it, then I do none of those things.

I do none of the above.  I need full concentration when running red lights, blowing through stop signs, lane jumping in rush hour traffic, unleashing fits of road rage on others and of course mowing down cyclists.

With one hand?  Nah, the hands are for the coffee/burger/cigarettes/cds and flipping the bird.

None of the above, as cell phone use with a Bluetooth hands-free adaptor is legal in Quebec.

Now if you had written "POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS" instead of "prohibited" then I'd give a different answer.  ;)

Seriously, I use my cell in the car with a headset but mainly for inbound calls.  I get maybe a half dozen inbound calls a month and send out maybe 3 or 4 in that same period.

I NEVER send text messages or engage in any other truly absorbing task while driving.

Any opinions on the point of view that says it is having a phone conversation while driving that is the danger not just the act of actually holding a handset?  (IE: Bluetooth isn't really much safer)

This has been shown to be true.  The very fact that the other person is not in the car with the driver means that he or she will not adapt the conversation to the situation, simply because the caller is not aware of it!  Only a passenger will see the oncoming traffic issue or the snow storm or whatever else is happening outside the car.

The best option in those cases is to either pull over or end the call with a promise to call back later.  After which one should turn off the cell phone or other electronic gadget that is distracting the driver.
