Oh and I can't forget to mention that HORRIBLY slow 6-speed dual clutch in the Fiesta... that was faster than the Mazda2 by over a second....

I don't understand the Regal vs E-Class Wagon results... http://ajac.ca/web/ccoty/2011/comparison_category.asp?cat=84

It seems as though the E-Class won quite a few sections rather decisively, won a few more by a .1 or .2, and only lost a few (Subjective Value by 0.2, Interior Score by 0.7, Fuel Score by 1.5 and Emissions Score by 0.5).  Just by looking at these numbers only, it would seem that the E-Class is the clear winner.

If I add up the number for each category, I get total scores of 169.8 for the Regal, 175.6 for the E-Class and 170.1 for the Avalon.  Obviously, there is some kind of weighting that is happening here...

James, do you have more information about this?

No idea of the exact formula.  But everything is weighted against the price and the E class is nearly double.

I wonder why M-B didn't enter the E-Class Wagon in the Luxury Over 50k category then? Sounds like it had no chance to win the Family Car Over 30k category...

Was the tested Tucson FWD or AWD?

FWD

This explains the 0-100 km/hr times between the Tucson, Sportage and RVR.

I noticed from other reviews and tests including the MT SUV of the Year contest that the AWD Tucson and Sportage are only marginally faster than the RVR (less than 0.5 sec) despite having bigger engine, almost 30 hp more, 6A/T vs. CVT and less than 100lb weight penalty.

Do you know if the testers used the manual mode or the flappy paddles on the RVR?
Traction Control ON or OFF? Just curious.

No idea, but I'm betting.  Stick it in drive and go.

How was the off-road capability tested for the SUV class?

Driven through a "cottage" trail.  It's kind of sad apparently I didn't bother.

.... where the AWD or ground clearance don't even count. You can drive a sub-compact on such road.

I do not view these small utes as off road vehicules, and I suspect most people don't.  I say people buy them to make winter driving more palatable(fun) and the utility aspect, higher driving position etc.  I know that's why I bought the Juke, but in my case I wanted the smallest possible vehicle with AWD.

^ then you bought the wrong vehicle (hahahaha congrats though!).

There are smaller AWD vehicles, like the SX4 :P

I agree. Yet, they rate/score them as such in the CCOY contest and other comparisons.

They are all-weather/all-road vehicles rather than off-road IMO. Why would you score/rank a vehicle against a criteria that it is not designed for?

On the other hand, I'd be interested to know how the AWD systems compare to each other, and how the vehicle generally performs under difficult situations (steep inclines, lots of snow/mud, etc.) Just driving around a 'cottage' trail is ridiculous and useless. Just shows how serious this CCOTY thing really is.

They use to setup a big thing with hill climbs and such but apparently vehicles were being damaged.  This year was pretty sad in that regard from what I heard.  I spent my time on the track so I don't know.  I do know the Touareg handled surprisingly well on the track! :P

Is the Touraeg still on the same platform as the Cayenne?
