Damn, my picks for the winners were about as close as my picks for lottery #'s...

EDIT - I did pick the Sienna...  ;D

I got the first 4 correct and then it went down hill from there.   I guess I'm a low-end segment kind of guy.

Dude the sonata and cruze were not in the same category.

Then what is Shnak talking about??  But you have to agree, piting the Cruze against the Juke is like what? Corolla vs a Mini?  Anyhow I like the Cruze but I want a Juke ;) so...........

Juke and Cruze make sense, they are both similar in size, so one is higher it really is a very compact car that is jacked up.

My buddy Shnak corrected himself long ago...

Sorry, I completely screwed up my comment... Cruze and Sonata were NOT in the same segment... Cruze was in small car over $21k while the Sonata was in the Family car under $30k. So yeah, ignore my Cruze vs Sonata comment.

I really like the CCOTY exercise mainly because it gives a better than average 'car review' via all the subjective ratings of the many areas. In turn that allows someone interested in a certain car to go out with "reasonable doubts" about specific areas, and decide for oneself. Otherwise, the odds are good a person could buy a car and find out things that were problems to them afterward.

Having said that, the CCOTY as a competition for other than manufacturer's marketing benefit, as its structured, sucks. Categories so small, varied, and ultimately dependent on what some other manufacturer brings out that year.

It needs to be fixed. The solution, or most of it, is simple. Take away the potential meaninglessness of a weak category by including, in each category, last year's winning car/truck, eligible for one year only. And if it wins CCOTY and its not "this year's" new model, so what? Its only a year new! In that case, the following year, the #2 car would take its place.

Like that idea too.

Big part of AJAC's problems are:
1) There can't be too many categories or the wins become less significant
2) Some categories don't have new entries every year, or consumer tastes shift away from a segment
3) New vehicles are being launched which don't fit into the traditional mould of categories, which makes it very difficult to fit them into a category (may have no direct competitors), nevermind compare them to other entries within it

Yup the system isn't perfect.  Bringing back last years winner would be great but apparently the manufacturers PR departments just don't have the money to do this.

AJAC's system is considered one of the best in the world butni agree it is not perfect.

The other journo orgnizations around the world and manufacturers, because nobody brings in so many cars to test back to back.

I see flaws in the system as well, but nothing is perfect and it is good system.  I think if you see it run from the inside you get a little more appreciation for it.  I'd like for them to bring back last years winner as well, and be more consistent with the categories.

Oh ok..from the number of cars, not the actual categories/criteria/flawed testing.  Ok..got it.

My read of '5' Series Sedan (at 64K dlrs) is that it is 535i but where can you confirm because
535 ix or 528i optioned up might also be the representative.  They drive differently.

Infinity M37 AWD drives differently too.

Why not be specific?

Have I missed specifications some where?

Car & Driver ranked 535i behind M37 and Audi A6.

The Ford Fiesta and Ford Edge are winners, as well as the Regal, Cruze, and CTS-V.  Not a bad showing for the domestics.  :)

I see it's also a standout in the braking department, maybe it's a good thing that it's slow.   Sell it as a safety feature.  ;D
