GTI Output actually underratted? Edmunds Dyno test

the GTI. Its 2.0-liter direct-injected 2.0-liter four-pot is rated at 200 hp and 207 lb-ft at the flywheel.

This mental smoothing (there's that word again) exercise clips the peaks, one of which is the peak power. Call it 199 hp and 214 lb-ft.
So unless VW has some otherworldly transimission that has esentially no HP drain it looks like the 2.0 TSI engine is actually making a bit over VW specs. Actually quite a bit over in terms of Torque. Plus

Torque is largely flat from 2500 to 5200 rpm
214 lb/ft or tourque form 2500-5200 rpm is impressive from a small turbo engine IMO.

I'll admit I'm biased but it was nice to see the numbers support what I fell from seat of the pants driving.

I got a kick out of this line: "It's a smooth-revving, smooth-sounding smoothie with smoothness."  :rofl2:

I'm not really too fussed about the numbers it makes on the dyno, but I do love how it runs. As much as I love engines that make plenty of low-end torque, I hate engines that run out of breath when you rev them out. With the 2.0T, it's nice to have your cake and eat it too.

They didn't say if it was DSG or not. However Iwould not expect much diofference since DSG is esantially a manual transmission with two clutches. Its not like you have efficiency losses from torque converters etc (but I have no proof of this its just my huess)

I'm pretty sure the car they dyno'd was a manual.

Their long-term test car is a white 2-door with the six-speed manual, and it sure seems like that's the car they used for the dyno test.

This isn't new. The 2.5 Liter golf also had the similar result. A lot of people think that's because they simply listed the same number as they would in Germany where they put the wheel output vs flywheel output that you tend to get over here.

Also remember this 2.0 liter engine is capable of much much more if not nannied by the conservative VW ECU. So over all not surprising.
