Stuffing a modern GT3 drivetrain into an older 911, similar to this one below.

Hmmm...wouldn't that make it worse in the snap oversteer dept??

More weight in the back AND more power??
AWD version would hopefully solve that problem.

I think the finest 911 to ever put tires on asphalt was this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruf_CTR

...Developing 469 hp (350 kW) and 408 lb·ft (553 N·m) of torque and weighing in it at only 2,580 pounds (1,170 kg), the CTR provided stellar performance, with a 0-60 mph time of around 3.7 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200 miles per hour (320 km/h). Although a small group of vehicles such as the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959  were faster to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h), the Yellowbird could outperform all competition when it came to top speed, topping out at 211 miles per hour (340 km/h), a top speed that made it the fastest sports car in the world at the time of its release...

I don't see how to improve on this car.  AWD?  Would add weight.  Electronic gizmos?  More unnecessary weight.  This car has 469hp and weighs less than our current Corolla.  This 911 defines "lean and mean."  1987?  Really?  Wow.

I don't agree with the GT3 drivetrain only because it's not air-cooled, the power would be very nice.

This '72 has the 3.6 from a 993 and about 300hp, huge flares filled with huge tires, turbo brakes, totally upgraded suspension, etc.  Love this car, it's my ideal.

Not sure if anyone here listens to the Adam Carolla Car Cast podcast, but it's great fun, and Adam actually interviews the guy who built that "dream" 911. The car is pretty amazing - and expensive!

Those are some amazing stats. The numbers that stick out: 469hp, 2580 pounds, and 1987. Simply incredible. On the flipside, I can't help but think how good a driver one had to have been in order to safely take advantage of that performance. A high-power old-school 911 would be very unforgiving, i'd imagine.

I do, put the engine in the right place, style it properly, and paint it orange!  :rofl2:

I'd like a BMW 3 series wagon with the V10 from the 'old' M5's like this one:

Aha!  You beat me to it.  Though I'd even "settle" for the 3-series wagon body with everything else from the current M3.
The past:00 BMW M Rdstr, 19 Jetta, 15 Ducati Scrambler, 09 Triumph Bonneville, 98 Boxster, 17 Kawi Z900, 05 LS 430, 99 LS 400, 17 Subaru STI, 14 Triumph STR, 15 WRX, 09 Ducati Monster 1100,  08 335i, 06 Suzuki SV650S, 06 330i, 06 MX-5, 04 Audi A4, 03 Suzuki SV650S, 98 328i, 93 Civic Si, 85 Corolla

@5wheelDrive re speed 6 wagon.
Swap in the 3.7 from thr Mustang as I mentioned and you'd be good to go ;-)

I'm not sure.  I like the idea of the lighter turbo 4 in the original Mazdaspeed 6.  With a chip and an air intake it wouldn't take much to get over 300hp.
