Thanks for the feedback, I hope you're correct, but won't know until we test it.  Have you had any major issues with it?
Certainly the power level is a personal preference so it may not be to your liking.

Issues? I had the horn replaced under warranty and the OEM Conticraps were, well, crap. Oh, I had a TSB performed (dealer did it for free) because under certain conditions a pressure spike in the power steering system could make a "clunk" sound. The TSB replaces a hose with a newer design. Other than that, all good.

Coming from a Murano with the 3.5 VQ I can't help but think you'll be disappointed with the power in the Escape.

I went from a Sentra Spec-V and wasn't horrified. You guys make it sound like the 4cyl Escape won't move if there is a strong breeze  :rofl2:

I've been driving my wife's civic for the last few months, so hopefully this will actually be a step up...setting bar really low

Barely... the Civic's actually a pretty peppy car considering its weight and willing engine. I seriously doubt you'll think of the Escape 4-cyl as a step-up from a Civic. The Fusion, Altima and Cruze Turbo (still have no idea how good it is) would probably be your best bets for 'step-ups' compared to the Civic.

Did she drive it at least?  Best driver out of the bunch.

Doesn't matter. Looks are usually more important than how it drives for most people.

I like the looks of the Rogue but haven't driven one. I had a brief ~30 second sit in one at an auto show and the thing that stood out was that the centre console got in the way of my right leg.

I'd choose the Altima.

Nope, but if she thinks it's ugly, it's off the table.

Looks like it's going to be the Escape.  Altima was off the list as soon as we looked at it, too big and not what we wanted.  Drove the Escape and the Rogue.  Neither of them were anything special on the road and we didnt notice any real difference in the engines or handling.  We liked the interior of the Rogue better but, unfortunately for Nissan, the thing is one giant blindspot, my wife couldn't see behind her and the back window is a joke.  So by process of elimination, the Escape wins.

I guess I'm excited to get something new, but this choice (IMO the best of our options) does not really excite me.

Hard to believe someone prefers the look of the Escape over the Fusion, but whatever. It seems many women want to drive something that has a high seating position.

The base 4cyl does but I saw a loaded black one yesterday and thought it looked fantastic.

Congrats? on the new car.
